I just bought this e6750 with msi p6n sli platinum board. However for the life of me I can't figure out why in windows it shows this.

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=261634

why would fsb be forcing 333mhz when I have 400mhz ram and it shows up at the correct 2.68ghz speed in dos?

Sorry I'm pretty new to Intel processors and boards for at home; only use them at work.

try to dl another monitoring tool

the first thing that strikes me as off right off the bat is your clock mulitiplyer.
to my knowledge he core2 and quad are set at x9 factory. if you set your mulitplie to x9 your cpu speed will be around 3.0 ghz. do you have the most current bios for your board? check your settings in bios to make sure that it wasn't set to a slower clock speed. hope i could help a little. i'm still learning...

Speedstep is an Intel software program that slows down the cpu to save energy and run cooler. You can disable it in the bios, but I would leave it alone. It will automatically increase the speed as needed. For memory, the board selects the correct speed according to your board chipset and how many sticks you're using. My board runs my pc3200 at 333 when all 4 slots are filled. I have to change the memory speed manually in the bios, and sometimes the timings to get it stable. If you don't know much about bios settings, I would leave it alone.

i think your fbs is supposed to be running at 266 factory too...
i have the e6600 whihc is running x9 at 266mhz...
lot of room for OCing...as you said, i also have 400 mhz ram...

It's either speedstep or C1E both are designed to decrease the CPU speed at idle to reduce power usage. And your FSB speed isn't dependant on your RAM speed, it's the other way around, your ram runs at a multiple of your FSB. The FSB should be 333mhz(1333mhz) for that CPU. If you want to the ram to run at 400mhz, you'll have to set it for that speed in the bios if it doesn't do it by default. That doesn't mean your FSB will be running at 400mhz, just your ram.

The thing I was thinking it could be is I don't think the bios would default to the default ram voltage being 2.2v on this set I have for ddr2 800. I mean I didn't touch anything other than the boot process in the bios so everythings pretty much default settings. SpeedStep and C1E might be it too

Your FSB and ram speed are as they should be. FSB 333 x 6:5 divider = ram of 400mhz/ddr800, which is the default setting for your CPU and ram.

And the multi droping from 8x to 6x is definately speed step, you can turn it off in bios if you wish.

Nope, the E6750 is one of the new 1333fsb chips, default FSB is 333mhz.

1333 chips = E6550,E6750,E6850
1066 chips = E6300,E6320,E6400,E6420,E6600,E6700,E6800
