Running Windows XP in Portrait?

Is it possible to run Windows in portrait mode? I'm trying to do a MAME project... Arcade machines were run in portrait mode in most of the Early 1980's video games, and I would like to emulate that. But I also want to be able to run and use windows in portait mode for running other apps.

Note: I do NOT have and probably will not be using a portrait mode monitor...
