i got

AMD 2500+ barton
Asus A7N8X delux rev 2.0
512 kingston hyperx 3200
SK-7 heatsink with YS tech adjustable fan running at the fastest setting


I'm a newbie at overclocking and not having a very good time doing it...can't seem to get it very high and Prime95 keeps giving me errors.

right now its 195x11.5 1.85 vcore 43 idle CPU temp...isn't that kind of a high temp for sk-7/Ys tech fan?? Did i not install it with the AS3 right??

at 195x11.5 1.85 vcore it errors out of Prime95 in a minute... so this kinda sux...

my NON oced 1700+ is running at 46 C for some reason, your temps seem a bit on the high side but nothing to worry about

well...i just spent 30 bucks on the HSF...i was hoping the temp would be about 5C less...but so yah...it does seem pretty high huh? maybe i'll try to reapply the AS3 and the heatsink

May I ask, since when is 43C idle something to worry about? That kind of temperature won't make the system unstable. Try going down a lil on the clock speed or something, or upping the VCore if you MUST have the speed that high.

Well, You have PC3200 400mhz memory, so it would be in your best interest to get your FSB in syc at the memorys full speed to take advantage of it. Back off on the multiplier a bit. Drop it to 10 even. Then work your FSB up. You can stop at 200mhz FSB or push it higher, but you will also be overclocking your memory at that point, so you may need to up your Vdimm or relax your timings. Once you have settled on your FSB, then start boosting your multiplier. You have to take the time to test your stability as you work up. Crashing in Prime after one minute does you no good.
43C is not that bad. You are giving it a lot of Vcore, and I would be hesitant to bump it much more over 1.85, but that is up to you.

well see the thing is it wont even get to 200

200x10 @ 1.85 vcore Prime95 fails in less than a minute...I don't really want to go above 1.85...so i guess i wont be getting the most out of my ram...much less my first overclocking experience...

How about 9.5x200? My Barton 2500+ does not do well above 166fsb, but I got a KT400 chipset mobo, so that might be the issue. I have heard that others with NF2 boards and the 2500+ have problems getting above 185fsb or so without cutting the 3rd L12 bridge on the chip. Then they say it runs like a dream, I've heard up to as much as 221fsb.

that makes me feel better, i was at 46 degrees idle and i immediately reapplies thermal paste, lowered temps about 3 degrees C so i'm at 43 but what concerns me is that i was right around 38-39 degrees only a few days ago

well i heard about cutting the 3rd L12 bridge on the chip but i have no idea how to do it...i know theres cutting and something else using a battery...but i havent found any good walk throughs at all on how to cut that bridge...

If you already haven't, you may want to make sure you have the latest BIOS and you can also try to increase your chipset voltage a bit.

I sure as heck would not try the battery trick, I mean I not all that comfortable jump starting my car, don't think I wanna try that on my CPU!

is there a chipset voltage setting on the a7n8x bios? I know theres the vcore, the vdimm, and the volt agp settings...wheres the chipset voltage? and whats safe to turn that up to?

This thing says my mb should default to 166 fsb...but that's weird...its always defaulted to 100.... Why would my barton 2500 default to 100?
