Running three monitors at once

Hey guys,
Asus A8n-SLI deluxe,
Radeon X800 XL
Win XP Pro

The Radeon card supports two monitors, but I'd like a third.
Can I add any old PCI video card to support a third monitor?
Does it require configuration or anything like that?

Just drop the PCI card in and it will work. I had a Radeon 9700, put in a PCI Radeon 7000, and everything was fine.

Be careful though. If you get a card that's too old, it will redraw slowly and act weird at higher resolutions.

What do you figure is the oldest/cheapest PCI card I can go with without having problems?
I should mention that it's only going to be used on a 15" 1024 x 768 monitor, nothing fancy.

I think i'll try a $40 G4.

Which card is $70? The one I linked to is $45.

yup pci. in fact a while back before cards came with two outputs standard its how you got two monitors..let alone3

and yea any cheap card will do for most things. we are long past the point where "redraw" is slow in windows for even cheap cards. maybe hdtv decode is the only thing left that would be bad, but its nothing really.

Come over and see my Radeon 7000 then. 1600x1200 isn't pretty on it.

too cheap and old i guess a 9250 with 128mb is only 50 dollars. but is he really going to run such a high res?

If you had 2 cards in SLi, you could remove the bridge and run 4 monitors! But alas, you have an SLi mobo and only 1 graphics card.

I think geeks.com has alot of video card that whould do the trick for you nice and cheap. You might want to look around there.

I think it's worth the extra money just in case. I didn't think I'd be going over 1280x1024 with my 7000, but I ended up trying.

Hold up, someone made an interest suggestion there. Is it possible to stick a second, different non-SLI card in my second PCI-E port and NOT use them in SLI? That way I can leave room for a fourth monitor, and not use one of my PCI slots either.
