Running slow

For some odd reason, my pc was running a slow. Firefox was using a crap load of memory and cpu.
I only had 3 tabs open. And one of them i was on youtube listening/watching music videos.
I didn't have issues like this before (with my new build).
I have malwarebytes as well but it doesn't seem to slow my pc down.
Is there some issues with firefox that uses a butt load of memory. Right now its at 114 to 116mb. But when my pc was running sluggish it was at 260mb.
I didn't have anything else running in the background like a virus scan or anything like that.
Please any ideas let me know.
Thanks.

260 MB is not a lot at all. I didn't see in your sig how much RAM you have, but I am sure you have at least 4 GB.

Make sure to check 'Show processes from all users' when looking at task manager.

What Antivirus are you running?

When did your computer start running slow?

My PC has been running slow lately too it could be because of the heat or recent updates not performing as well as previous ones.

Try waiting awhile and see if it picks itself back up or otherwise investigate your files with a quick scan.

I've stated how much ram I have (8gb).
The only antivirus I have is the windows defender and malwarebyts.
It just happen last night. It was running sluggish.
It felt like my old 10yr PC.
It was odd.
I'm thinking of going 16gb. But I don't think I have room cause of my hs fan is getting in the way. I may have to move the fan on the other side.
I'll c if this keeps happening. There was some updates and I did restarted my PC
After that, that's when I had the issues.
Hopefully its not a common issue

Ah, I see the 16 at the bottom of your sig. 8 is plenty. If you look at the performance tab of task manager, how much is being used? If it is less than, say, 7, you have a different problem.

Did you mean if memory is being used less than 7gb?

Malwarebytes is not really an antivirus program. The first thing I would do is download a free antivirus program like Avast and do a complete scan. And always run the antivirus when the computer is in use. Computers are so powerful today that running an antivirus program has minimal effect on performance. I use Microsoft Security Essentials, but I dont think that works on windows 8.

Ketchup, do you mean using *more* than 7 gb is a problem? I have 8 gb of ram and even when gaming rarely use more than 30 or 40 percent of that.

If task manager says you are using 7 GB during the slow periods, you would probably benefit from more RAM. If you are only using, say, 3 GB, then you need to look from programs running in the background that may be causing this issue.

Are you still seeing the slowness tvfreak?
