Running SLI - do the cards need to be the same brand?

I currently have an Albatron 7800GT. I'm intending on buying a second 7800GT in future when prices are cheaper and running them in SLI. Would I need to get another Albatron card or would any 7800GT suffice as long as it had the same clocks?

any 7800GT will work, including ones without same clocks.. its just that one will either clock down or one clocks up to match them

however, getting a 7800GT isnt a wise decision anymore, as prices will remain up and not go down whatsoever because of the fact they cost more to produce, and this is nvidias way of getting people to buy the newer versions

its happened with the 6 series and 5 series (think if u check back to see the prices of 5950Ultras :p)

your alot better off grabbing a 7900GT or higher

I ran SLI for about 3 days and gave up for a single 7900GTX. Both different brands and speed. Why? My ABit mobo forces me to turn off BIOS fan controls. I like the fan controls to keep the system silent. Secondly, running 2 7800GTs is very warm/hot inside the case using my slow running fans.

FYI: Last week, I sold 1 eVGA 7800GT for $198 shipped and 1 MSI 7800GT with Accelero X1 for $224 shipped. They are still hovering around $200-$220 shipped.

You can have mixed venders/brands when putting together an SLi setup.

Maybe you should just save your money, and grab an 7900GTX (440~) or 7900GT (cheapest is 240~).

edit - clock speeds can be different too.

That is exactly what I did. YOu can still get $200 for your 7800GT. The 7900GTX I bought from Zipzoomfly.com was $429 after rebate and free shipping.
