Running Prime95 and high temps

My mobo is a Abit IC7 w/ P4C 2.4, all factory settings. I just wanted to check out if everything was fine before I start to OC.

Im checking my temps with Winbond Hardware Doctor and under load CPU temps = 63-64C.

Is Winbond accurate? If not, what is a better program to monitor?

And....

Does 63-64C seem high?

Thanks

The Winbond gives the same temps as MBM. As far as accurate, thats the domain of the sensor chip and bios programming..........:D

AS long as your stable, those temps are probably fine, whats your ambient and case temps?

Everyone needs to remember this summer, as your room temps go up, your case temps will go up by the same amount and your processor temps will go up the same amount. (all approximately as motherboard sensors still have a compression factor during reporting or at least seem too).

There's a known issue with this board and temperature monitoring. I've read that Abit does not plan to correct this, and their statement is that it more accurately reflects the core temps. I've also read the error is on the magnitude of 10C, so you're fine but if you want to o/c I'd research it more.

I'll have to check the case temp when I get home, but as far as I can remember, it was about 37C under load.

I've read that many people are successfully OCing their P2.4mhz to 3mhz on stock cooling. I was intending to do the same, 250fsb.

Im not sure what everyone else's CPU temperature was at?

With a stock heatsink, and those case temps and that motherboard, your temps are normal. When you gonna try the overclock?

Just for your reference, I'm using a 2.4c overclocked to 3.3g and running 2 instance of prime95 temps reach 71c or so on a hot day. That is with the retail HSF and default vcore.

Given Abit's description of what is normal I'm not concerned about it.

I also using a 2.4C, but running at 3.0 and under Prime95 for less than 5 minutes, my temps reached 70C. That was when the warning beeps kicked in.

What should I adjust my temp warning beeps to? 75C?

Also, would running a little more Vcore than necessary cause higher temps?

Thanks!

These processors aren't necessarily running hotter than yours, the motherboard is reporting a more accurate temp. Unless you live inside a cooler it's not very likely your 30c temp is right.
