I've run out once while on the highway. Was borrowing a friend's car, and on the way up from Florida I sorta forgot to fill it up. I figured the low gas light would come on at some point, but unbeknownst to both me and the friend who owned the car, it didn't have a low gas light. That sucked.
Never completely out, but really close. Even in my GMC Tracker, which had the fuel level indicator completely go, I never ran out. I don't really want the hassle or embarrassment of running out.
I thought you meant figuratively at first. I never have in my car, I used to carry gas cans in the back of my truck, and the Supra has an 18 gallon tank supposedly. (although I've never put more than a little over 16 gallons into it, and that's being well below E with the light on for some time)
I seriously figure out when to get gas based on the sound the car makes and have NEVER run out. If you watch the gas guage for awhile you will see it can't possibly be accurate. On some cars you can watch the needle move up half a tank just by stepping on the gas pedal.
