running network cable

freeway

Senior member
I'm upgrading my old 10base2 network to a 100basetx network, and I want to run the cable through the wall. I would like to put the cable in the wall, and a jack on each end. Then I would use a short cable to go from one jack to my pc and from the other jack to my switch. Would the added connections cause my network to slow down or should I run the cable so it plugs into my pc on one end and the switch on the other with one cable? TIA

The jacks wont make any noticable difference in speed. You'll be much happier with a clean wired network instead of the loose wires.

Those extra jacks won't make any difference... So it's a question of which looks better for you... some ppl don't like wires coming out of their walls, so with the jacks it looks "cleaner"...

If you don't want to do jacks, don't crimp your own cable ends. They're very unreliable and will cause more problems than they're worth.
