running multiple monitors, should they be the same model?

Currently I have two monitors, a samsung 940bw and an old 19in viewsonic crt. I am considering getting rid of my viewsonic, both for more deskspace (it is very deep), and because the screen quality has gotten progressively worse over the years. Should I try to replace the crt with the exact same model lcd as I currently have? Is there really any major benefit to doing so? Or should I just look for a deal on an lcd with a similar resolution and size?

2 identical lcd's will look better, but if you can get a better qaulity model for the same money, then I wouldn't give up on that extra qaulity just for the looks.

I agree with MarcVenice, you should get the best display within your budget to replace the viewsonic, and since it will probably be better then the Samsung, make your new display your primary one and move the Samsung to the secondary.

old faded crt will waste power and look slightly absurd next to the lcd
its doable, but not really worth bothering with.
toss that crt to the recylcers or keep it as a backup monitor.

christmas and stuff is coming, soon cheap lcds deals will be everywhere.

Same size is good. It drives me nuts when the screen resizes when moving to the other monitor when the monitors are different sizes. As for resolution, more is better.

I hope so. Still can't get a great 4:3 ratio, decent response time & dot pitch 17" TFT over here in the UK for any less than around £100. :(

you don't need uber response for a second monitor.
you only game on one, being picky about the second isn't necessary. even cr@p lcd these days is quite nice.
