Running MSN Messenger with Outlook Express

Currently, I'm running Windows Messenger 4.7 with Outlook Express. Yesterday, I downloaded and installed MSN Messenger 6.2. However, only Windows Messenger runs with OE.

Is there any way to make MSN Messenger run with OE instead of Windows Messenger (By this I mean MSN Messenger starting when I start OE)? If I remove WM, would that make MM run with OE?

Thanks.

Go to Add/Remove Programs: Add/Remove Windows Components: uncheck "Windows Messenger" to uninstall. Now MSN Messenger will work correctly, in tandem with Outlook Express.
Normally, you'd leave MSN Messenger running all the time, and start up, or close down, Outlook Express, on an "as needed" basis.

Yes, that's how I intend to run MSN Messenger and Outlook Express. However, I'd like the "on-line status" of my contacts to show on the Contacts pane of Outlook Express when I open it. This happens now with Windows Messenger.

Thanks for the info. I'll follow the steps and see.

Unchecking "Windows Messenger" won't uninstall it. This will only remove the shortcut from your Start menu. It's a core system component and cannot be uninstalled.

Sorry, but OE on XP was designed only to work with Windows Messenger. Even if you were to hack WM off your machine, OE still will not integrate with MSN Messenger. Integration between OE and MSN Messenger only works on downlevel operating systems.

Thanks for that info, Slugbait. I was gradually beginning to realize this fact. I guess I'll have to learn to live with non-integration.
