running FSAA with native resolution

is it worth it?

I'm playing far cry at 1680X1050 right now with maximum everything, and it doesn't seem like anti-aliasing is doing anything. 1680X1050 is the maximum and native for my display.

also, which is better/effective/better performance-eyecandy ratio? running at a lower resolution with 6X anti-alias or maximum (native) resolution and no FSAA?

Yes it is still effective. However, as resolution increases, "jaggies" decrease. So this is why its not as noticeable. It also depends on the card and how effectively it implements AA

And as for your second question, I always favor the higher resolution but I have seen similar results with low resolution and high AA as high resolution and low AA.

Always run native resolution. The reason for AA is to make the image look better, which it doesn't at non native resolution.

That's not true at all 😕

The image can be improved even at native resolution. You think back when CRTs were more popular people never had to use AA because there was no "native resolution" problem? Whether you are running at native resolution or a scaled resolution there will always be jaggies that can be reduced

I think you mis-read his statement.

He's saying that running at non-native will degrade image quality a lot. A lot more than more anti-aliasing will offset.

That's the one thing I HATE about LCDs - being tied to a resolution, an odd aspect ratios.. who the frack decided to use 16x10 ratios instead of 16x9????
