Wasn't there a president who was never in Congress that when he got in, he didn't really fit well as president because Congress didn't agree with his ideas?... I forgot who...

Bill Clinton

a "regular" person can't run , you won't get on the ballot

even the 3rd party candidates are not "regular" , they are nutjobs, you have to be a nutjob to get nominated by the socialists or green party etc etc

and the only ones that can get on as republican or democrat are career politicians

Anybody who runs for president is a nutjob. To get elected today, you have to go on TV and be a boastful, shallow, evasive ass. In this country as it is, would you want 100 million people to tell you they like and agree with you? If that happened to me, I'd consider myself a gigantic failure.

Besides which, if you think being president would be good, you're not the kind who should be president. When I was a kid, I used to think I wanted to be president so I could fix all the nation's problems. Then I grew up and realized that most people don't want help- they want somebody to blame so they don't have to fix their problems. I also realized that no human has the wisdom to really rule over this mighty nation. Solomon said it best:

1 Kings 3:7-10 (NKJV)
7 Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You rhave chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?? 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

"I wouldn't vote for you, you don't have enough money!" - Sounds ridiculous

Think about all of the people you know that would make a better president than George Bush(Flame OFF to all of the bush supporters, substitute some other former president if you wish). Do they have buttloads of cash spewing out of their rears? Probably not. So money is not necessarily a quality that makes a good president.

You need:
To get the word out to the entire United States
Convince Americans that YOU have the experience and know-how to do the job
Otherwise convince Americans that your ideals are suitable
Don't be a tool (Very important)

Yes, it will take some $$$ to get there, but if you think outside the box, I think it is possible. You don't have to be sweating cash to run for/be president. It just takes some ingenuity and LOTS of self confidence.

lincoln wasn't rich.

He did well for himself as a lawyer.

I think he meant he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. BTW-who came up with that phrase?

Ross Perot was just a business man right?

just a billionaire business man
what i mean is he wasn't a career politician and hasn't been elected to office before that

right

but the only reason he was able to organize and get on the ballot in 50 states was his money

i voted for Perot, Bill Clinton should still be thanking him for getting him elected
