I am a lucky SOB.
I've spent the last two hours trying to find a second G2400WD. The only place I could find one was eBuyer, where I bought the first monitor from. All other UK shops list it as being discontinued or zero stock.
eBuyer only had a clearance and open box G2400WD:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161780
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168481
There was only a £10 - £20 saving for the open box / clearance over what I paid for the first monitor.
I had a look on eBay and I found that eBuyer had a listing for a new G2400WD (at the identical price to what I paid for the first one). The G2400WD was listed as new with a 12 month warranty, unlike the clearance (30 days) and open box (90 days):
7.1 All new goods supplied by the Supplier are warranted free from defects for 12 months from the date of supply (unless otherwise stated). This warranty does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer. If new goods develop a defect during the 12 month warranty period, you should follow the Supplier's Returns procedure (see condition 12 below). In the event of a valid claim for a defect in the new goods, where clauses 8.4 or 8.5 do not apply, the Supplier will (at its option) either... (from eBuyer's Terms and Conditions).
The clearance and open box could also have stuff missing from it and cosmetic damage to the monitor (as well as more than the ISO standard number of dead pixels). eBay's conditions of sale stated that an item listed as new must be new.
The other thing as well is that eBuyer's eBay Terms and Conditons are identical to their online shop's Terms and Conditons, so I'm covered when it comes to the number of dead pixels, the RMA process (which I know is good), etc.
'All LCD displays sold at
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ebuyerexpress adhere to the ISO 13406-2 standard with regard to pixel faults. ISO 13406-2 recommends how many defaults are acceptable in a display before it should be replaced, within the terms & conditions of warranty. The below is relevant to Class II LCD panels.'
'To return an item to Ebuyer, you must obtain a unique Returns Authorisation Number from a member of our Return Support team on 0845 121 0523. Once you have received your unique number, your item(s) can be returned to Ebuyer.'
So I got my debit card out and bought that sucker. It will be delivered to work this Friday.
The whole point of this exercise is that I want matching monitors sitting on my desk.
I've now got to buy a second 3m long Dual DVI cable.
I'm also going to download and purchase
Ultramon for $40.00 (or £25.00)
