DOS will run on the chipset but many DOS programs are tied to the clock cycle. So, if there are timing functions within the DOS program such as timed displays, response timers, animations etc. you will need additional software to use the programs.
Another vote for DOSBox. With the exception of a few very proprietary(and legacy) equipment that I've been using, DOSBox has worked out great for everything else.
