How long do you think it would take to fry a 1GHZ AMD if
you ran it with no Heatsink or fan?

Just why would you even consider doing this...? Fireworks are a lot cheaper... :)

I think it's about 8 seconds for a 1Ghz chip.

I know Kyle from HardOCP managed to torch a 1.2Ghz T-Bird in less than 2 seconds w/o a heatsink and fan.

From 5-13 seconds depending on how well cooled the case is.

You have got waaaay to much money to waste if your really considering doing this.
A T-Bird would make a beautiful keychain though :)

I actually have some experience with this subject. A guy at work offered to test out my 800 T'Bird to help me debug my new system (ASUS A7V133a wouldn't boot). I gave him the processor and the H/S/F. He stated that he put it in his ASUS A7V *without the H/S* and booted it. He said it loaded into Windows, and then started to smoke, probably from Arctic Silver that was still on the core. He quickly shut it off and yanked the processor out. It took an hour before his mobo would boot again!

And my processor still works. Maybe a new way of "burning in" a T'Bird...

Reminds me of the Widler dude who had too much money. Drove his Benz to Vegas so he can run it into a tree.
