Running a mobile P4 on a Desktop MoBo

MoBo - Asus P4b533-e (bios rev. 1014)
CPU - Intel P4 3.06Ghz 533 Northwood (maybe mobile ?)

I bought this CPU as an upgrade from my 1.8 P4. The MoBo is supposed to handle up to 3.06 but after installing said CPU the Bios will only recognize it as a P4 1.6ghz. So after a little reading I have to come to the conclusion that the dillhole I bought it from sold me a mobile chip not a regular northwood.

The multiplier is locked at 12X and the voltage is running at 1.2v which is great cause i can OC the shiz out of it but the CPU itself is only running at half of what it should be and I'm not getting HT oprtions in the Bios like I should.

Is there any way for me to get the CPU to run at the specified frequency of 3.06ghz?

and How do I do it.

The machine will boot up and run but only at the lower speed.

Does the CPU have a heat spreader? If it doesn't, then it is a mobile CPU.

If the multiplier is locked at 12, then in all likelyhood, it is a mobile CPU. If you have a mobo that supports high FSB, that might not be a bad thing. These CPUs overclock very well, but you need high FSB because the multiplier is locked at 12 and this cannot be changed.

If it is a mobile, PM me how much you paid for it. I may be interested in it!

Lets assume it did and it really is a regular 3.06 why would the multiplier be locked?
 
There would be no reason for a 3.06 desktop CPU to have the multiplier locked at 12 (Intel CPU multipliers are all locked at whatever). Combined with the fact that your Vcore is 1.2V, I think you're looking at a laptop CPU.
 
OK Intels CPUID utility does in fact say Mobile P4 on it so I guess that verifies that

But i still need to be able to get it to run at 3.06.

I jumped the bus speed up from 133 to 200 last night and was able to get it to boot but it crashed back out of windows.

So I then was able to get it to boot succesfully at 174mhz I think it was running at 2.06Ghz

Contact Asus* Support and make sure your motherboard fully supports the processor. Please check you have PCB version 1.02 and IAA version 2.2.2 or later. Also check for special BIOS settings or jumpers in the motherboard to support this processor.

I will also recommend testing the processor in another compatible motherboard to see if it runs at 3.06 GHz.

It means you have to look directly on the mobo (normally somewhere around the last PCI slot) and find the thing that says "PCB REV X.XX". It may actually be on the side of the PCI slot on a sticker.

/edit: But if the processor utility says it is a mobile, it is probably a mobile. Did you ever check to see if there was a heatspreader on the CPU? What is the SLXXX numberof theCPU?
 
Just as a note for other people.

I did in fact verify that my CPU did have a heat spreader on it which in a normal case would indicate it was a desktop CPU but after looking at the markings I was able to verify through Intel that it was a Mobile CPU

the markings were "SL276 malay" (google it)

The CPU is being returned today for a replacement hopefully all goes well If not I will post on here who screwed me over.
