Running a 1.4/266 Athlon on a KT133 Chipset?

Hey all,

Is the above possible?, I know the 133mhz FSB is unlikely with the KT133 chipset but if it's not possible can I run it at 14x100? Do I need a bios update for my Abit KT7 to do this?

Does the processor need to be unlocked (pencil trick) to run it at the 100fsb speed?

Thanx,

Corm

I dunno is you will need a new BIOS (probably). but you can do it. Just set the multiplier to 14.0 like you said, and it'll run great. If KT7-RAID doesn't have a 14.0 multipler, then just oc the fsb a little bit, and you should be able to get it up to 1.4GHz. That's what many Asus A7V users did for a while when 12.5 was the max. they increased the fsb a litle with the 12.5 multiplier and eventually got 1.4GHz

What type of mobo are you planning to use , most won't allow the use of the 266FSB athlons even when you unlock them the generally don't work.
I have tried this on a Gigabyte GA-7ZXR rev 1.0 and it failed as well as the Abit KT7 it sorta worked but was really unstable.
But why bother with the KT133 chipset anyway, the KT133A is better, but I can't wait till Abit releases a Board using the KT266A :D

If I was a more darey overclocker I may give it go, I might just leave it for a while and get the KT266 chipset, maybe even the KT266A. I was just thinking about getting a new processor when I change my fan (since Athlons have dropped in price so much), it's been getting a bit hot recently, when I am doing intensive multi-tasking it hits 65c, this is a bit warm innit? it's a NENG copper base fan, supposedly rated up to 1.4ghz.
