Running 2 different network connections on same machine

Hi Guys,

I have 2 different ADSL internet connections at my home.They both require ethernet card for connection to computer..

I want to connect them both to the same machine, such that i can use one connection for net surfing and other for downloading, online radio, etc.
I want to know if such a thing is possible and how..
I'm using Windows XP SP2 as the OS

hmmm....I can configure those applications which require a second connection to use a proxy server(which I can run locally on this machine).....is there any way to configure this proxy server to only use the second connection ?
 
If the proxy server connected to internet-2 is on your network then you only need one interface. Windows doesn't like more then one "live" interface because the amount of gateways will confuse it.
 
unfortunately this is not doable. Netsurfing, and downloading are pretty much the same thing, and there are no ways to differenciate which gateway to use.
Now, you can set static routes on your box to specify which connection to use when you wan to access a certain things on the web, but you have to add static routing to each address you want to access on the internet (too much address = impossible to maintain)
best way, get 2 machine, each connected to different provider, and use one of them for browsing, and the other for download 🙂
 
If you read the page you would understand that the whole point is that you can not combine but rather take controlled advantage of the two connections.

Otherwise (as mentioned by azev) use two computers.

Put a second NIC in one computer that is running WinXP Pro, and Bridge. That will allow two independent connections and one Network.
 
^^Well actually you can combine 2 connections to have combined bandwidth in download managers which open more than one stream for single file being downloaded, its called Connection Teaming and can be done using a software called Midpoint...i've done that in past..

Guess this thing which i'm asking now is not possible..
 
No way you can have combined Bandwitdh from the Internet, unless you have a special ISP that provides such service + special setting on your Network.
 
One thing you could try is to run the downloads from a virtual machine.

That way, you could restrict your downloads to one of the connections.

How to force xp to only use the other......?

Also XP hates dual connections, it hops between them making things like online games interesting...

Actually you can and only using softwares, there are 2 such softwares i know available for this purpose...
Viacom's Intergate
Midcore's Midpoint

I've used Midpoint, it can be used to combine upto 8 connections and it does aggregate bandwidth, only limitation is u have to download the files using multiple streams...Here you should check out this link

I don't have any experience with virtual machines.......so do u think its worth giving a shot?

Thank you for the Link that helps to make my point.

The example given there shows how you can improve the download efficiency of a single connection with one modem using the same ISP when the ISP is giving two external IPs on the same line and that IPs have to be on the same subnet.
