If I'm looking right now I'd probably grab that Samsung S6 from Amazon at $399. It's a solid phone (with its caveat, yes, but solid). This is the first ever Galaxy S phone that I would actually think about getting.

I would never suggest buying phones from a carrier, unless you absolutely *need* to get it subsidized and therefore don't mind being in contract. Buying a phone with a huge discount from a prepaid carrier sounds a little strange to me. It may work okay for some people, but I'm willing to bet unlocking it will be a bitch (if not entirely impossible).

Ya, I'm looking at Moto deals.

Also, the HTC One M9 is $390 at the HTC web site. just put it in the cart to see the better price! I need to read about it. Has the snapdragon 810, 3 GB of memory, expandable storage and a 5" screen. That's a lot of power for the price and suits my needs perfectly. Well, more than perfectly given the specs. Are the reviews bad?

Without owning one myself, from what I heard it is a very disappointing device, compared to what came before it (M7 and M8). So while it is not considered a 'great' device, you may need to adjust 'bad' with the expectation that people had for it.

Read up on the One M9. I am pretty dammed tempted to buy it. Mostly due to the build quality it is supposed to have.

Cronos,
Reviews seem to say that it makes sense to go from the M7 If you have it to the M9. But not to bother upgrading the M8 if you have that.

I think with the price it is at now it could easily be great.

I don't know much about rooting but there are plenty of articles on how to root it. I'm new to Android (shocker huh) so I am assuming that I can root it and get a "clean" android experience if I want to. So given the hardware specs, that is one heck of a device if I can get a clean Android install on it.

When you're looking at midrange devices, there will be trade offs, you just need to decide what you can live with.

Your the frame for purchase seems to have passed, what's your new time frame?

My wife has a spibelt that I could use. I like armbands so I can glance at my run summary mostly granted I get voice feedback. That and I can easily change music.
