I use firedaemon (the new beta version) and I run seti (command line version) as a service. It always runs on my work computer and it's great.

Anyone else do this?

Yes, there are a number of people who use the firedaemon, as well as other techniques of getting SETI to run as a service. :D

I use the srvany technique at home, and have used Flexinstaller at work. :D

In fact at home, I use SETIDRIVER installed as a service, which in turn runs SETI CLI in stealth mode. :D

Quite nice, since the home PC is used by the rest of the family, I don't have to worry about it being turned off by them, or having to make sure that it is logged in. :D

I use Firedaemon for all my service installs. It doesn't seem to handle setting up the CLI service for SMP, though. Probably something I'm doing wrong, I'm sure. I tried different things for about an hour on that quad Xeon I had here for a while and it always started all of the services in CPU 0. Even if I specified -cpu <n> on the command line for each service. I finally gave up and set up SetiDriver to run as a service and let it handle the processor affinity. That worked fine...

Hey, that firedaemon is pretty cool. I think I'll use it on the computer I'm building for my uncle. Since the beta expires in October, should I just use v0.09c + UI v1.0R3?

FireDaemon Beta Release Candidate 1 (BRC1) is the first beta release of FireDaemon v1.5! All BRCs are time-limited. BRC1 will expire on October 1, 2002.

Does this mean it will stop working on Oct. 1st or they will stop allowing you to download it on Oct. 1st?

It seems the only FREE version for WindowsXp is BRC1?

And does the service require firedaemon to remain installed? For example, if I used it to set up the SETI service and uninstalled Firedaemon, would the SETI service still run? Because if it did, I can use the beta version and install XP on my uncle's comp.
