Run games from harddisk ?

Hi folks,

How can I run games from my harddisk ? Some of my games require to insert the CD-ROM while playing game. I just want to run it from my harddisk without putting the CD-ROM. Thanks !

you can use..
1. a CD-ROM emulator which copies the contents onto your HDD
2. a patch that disables CD detection

1. is no good for games really, but good for some things...
2. is good for games, if you do a "full" install or some junk

Why would you ever want to run games from your hard disk? Isn't this just another way to ask how you can "crack" games?

AncientPC, not necessarily..many games these days come on a CD and end up installing cloes to 500 megs of it on the HD anyways, so why not just install the remaining few megabytes and get rid of the useless CD access..

I usually end up doing this with games that require me to install the movies, audios and things as such to save time and then use the CD exclusively for verifying that I bought the game...

Contrary to popular speculation, there are those of us who actually pay for our games..Regards

Pay for games.. whaaa?

Being able to not worry about the CD is great at times.

Like with UT.. It's tucked away in a binder and I"m glad I can just be spontaneous and fire it up.

Games like Grim fandango though, there's movies and voices.. music as well. Crap, the whole game takes up 40 megs on the HDD, so it's running totally off the CD, but there's enough to warrant it.

I'd second gamecopy world.. along with cracks they usually list instructions to play with No CD. I don't care about the hard drive space sometimes, so it's nice.

It is annoying that you have to load the CD every time to play it, unlike HL or Q3 where multiplayer doesn't require CD.

Try to search for a program called Virtual CD (maybe www. download.com). There you make full copy of your CD to the harddisk and then "insert" it and play. Excellent program, I hate that CD swapping as well.
