Run Dual monitors with ATI All In Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro?

Has anyone done this? I heard that he AIW 9700 Pro needs a HDTV as the second display, is that true?

So the AIW 9700 Pro can only run one display plus a TV?

The ATI AIW 9700 Pro loses the second monitor output. This means you can only connect to a TV or HDTV device (or a multistandard monitor that offers a composite input).

I have tried connecting to an HDTV, but if you want to use this as a monitor I can only describe this option as minimally adequate. But it does playback DVDs very nicely indeed.

So the answer to your question is yes. I think ATI were running out of real-estate on this card, but what they've managed to achieve is very remarkable. Also, the video-in has much better contrast range that anything I've seen from nvidia (I have a Gainward 4600 750/Golden Sample).

They should put the tv tuner on a breakout box like matrox did with their old tv/g450 cards.

ATI should have 2 crts monitor outputs, with 2 breakout boxes (2 tv tuner unputs for tv + pip), and (input/out box with all connectors.)

I would mind paying $50 more for it. Heck if you oay $450 already.

yeah that breakout box idea sounds good.

i guess I'll be using a G450 32mb PCI for my second display... still a great card, has DVI and everything

I gotta question, our IT guys are trying to set this up right now for video conferencing and it isn't working. They are using some box that "simulates" a monitor and is connected to a TV and the analogue port. They then have a TV in the TV plug. They are using the new little shuttle box with on-board video and an AGP slot. Apparently there isn't an option in the bios to turn off the on-board video - this happens "automatically" I guess.

any ideas?

Maybe this will let you run the same app across two screens.

Doubt it will let you run separate apps on each screen.

Have them send me one to try out, or two, so that I can try four apps on four displays! 😀

There actually might be a fix for those who have the cable but can't get it working for them. I seem to have found an incompatibility with DCC_Data pin from the analog monitors that might have prevented the digital display from powering up.

You should check the offical thread on 3dgameman for more information.

just got the cable and it didn't work for me. I will try some more things and try to read those threads. have to freakin register though.

does it have to be a pure analog display for the 2nd display? can it be a LCD that has analog/dvi but just use the analog input?

after a little work..... it worked. now running 2 lcds on a 9700 pro AIW. this is awesome

Maybe you could explain what little work it took and link the cable (the link above isn't working). pretty cool.
