run before breakfast or after?

when trying to lose weight (I'm at 195 from 240 a year ago), would it be best to run before breakfast or after?

At this time last year, I weighed almost 240 lbs. Since then, I've acutally started to eat better and now weigh about 195-200 lbs.

If I wanted to add running to my life, should I go before or after breakfast?

I still got a gut that I wanna lose.

<< You shouldn't excercise after you eat. It takes oxygen away from the digestive process. >>

and dont forget about the cramps

Do it before so your metabolism gets started and you'll quickly burn off the food you eat later. Plus, food will slow you down 🙂 Congrats on the weight loss 🙂

Yeah, run before you eat. The energy you'll have going after you take a run will burn the breakfast off pretty good, plus give you more energy.

Great job on the weight loss!! Keep it up!

do whatever exercise after breakfast. take advantage of your body's lowered insulin levels. because you have not eaten for so many hours, your fat reserves should be tapped quickly for immediate burn. champion european cyclists train in this manner exclusively.

The above advice is heartily recommended... however my own personal expereince has shown that if i dont eat before I run or do any form of intense cardio vascular excersises i feel VERY nauseous (Sp?)

Usually half a apple (2 slices) and a glass of water before i head out can help alot.

My stomach doesnt like running on "E" for empty

hope that helps.

Congratulations on the weight loss! You can eat a banana about an hour before excercise and it will prevent cramps. I also read somewhere that you should try walking or jogging for 30 or 45 minutes before you eat in the mornings because all the carbs will
have been burned off from sleeping the night before, and your body starts burning fat quicker. Congrats again.
