Run away from home

I just found out that one of my cousins (17) ran away from home today .... he just called his parents to tell him that he's fine. Considering my culture (we're Indian) his parents are shocked that he did something like this. Me and my sisters were trying to console her by saying "Look ... it seems somewhat bad right now ... but a lot of kids go through this. I almost ran away a few times (walked about 1/2 a mile before I got tired and cold and decided that I'd rather be at home). So while this is obviously not a good thing and everybody involves needs some help .... it's not the end of the world".

So out of curiousity I was wondering if anyone here every ran/contemplated running away from home. Did you ever return? Did you screw up your life forever? Or did you never look back ... if so how did you end up doing?

i did when i was a little kid, like 9 years old

i even put some canned food into my wagon and dragged it into the back woods once. but when it got dark, i went back to the house

My mom kicked me out when I was like 12, does that count?

Oh, and she let come back after I said I was sorry and agreed never to pee in the backyard again.

dude, i peed in the yard all the time when i was like 5 or 6.

My girlfriend's sister ran away from home 2 years ago. She calls once a month to let her parent's know she's ok, but she's been gone for 2 years.

I agree that usually at 17 when you leave the house ... you're gone for good. Except my cousin is fairly (well ... ridiculously) bright in Mathematics but I doubt he'd win place in the Social Olympics. His parents were looking at the top tech schools for him to go to (and AFAIK he still wants to go).

I thought it was ok because the dog did it...but I guess I was wrong?

I pee in the yard all the time. I peed in the driveway this evening. I also pee in the bathtub, not necessarily when I'm taking a shower. If peeing in the yard is wrong, then I don't want to be right.

Hahaha!! I know we aren't.. perhaps a vacation on my own then, huh?

VeggieFrog wanted to run away once, when she was about 7yrs. old... So, I handed her a suitcase! She changed her mind.

🙂

when my brother was 9 or 10 if he got upset hed say he was running away

but hed just walk to the end of the driveway and lay in the bushes near the street for 15 or 20 minutes and come inside after we were done laughing at him

I suffered alot of depression the beginning of 6th grade. I would just cry for no reason and couldn't stop. There were times I just wanted to run away from it all, but I couldn't. My parents were really supportive and got me medication. After being on Zoloft for awhile I was perfectly fine. Sucks haveing stupid chemical inbalances that you cant control.

I'm 20 and living at home during work term (my university is 3 months of school, 3 months of work) and I make great money, and it's always a temptation to take all the money at the end of work term and just go to Brazil or something instead of spending it on tuition.

It hasn't happened yet, but who knows 🙂

That's how my little sister is. She dresses like a slut and thinks it's perfectly normal. The sad part is she is very naive about the world and doesn't realize how ghetto/skanky she's becoming. It's all just normal to her. She's never been very smart either, and I'm worried she's gonna get involved with the wrong crowd and get married to someone who beats her.

But back onto the topic at hand, yes, I've even taken the van out for a while before after a fight, because I figured rather than run away I could drive away, and it was simply an added bonus that it was my mom's van 😀

😀😀

I didn't run you stupidass. I don't mind being here, but I really really *really* need my own place again. I'll be making enough money again soon. 🙂

I remember when I was 8, I got a blanket and put some clothes and cookies in it, tied it to a broomstick and headed out the front door, intent of leaving my cruel-cruel (or so I thought) family behind. I got to the end of my driveway, and my dad, who was working in the garage, calls out "hey son, where're you headed?" I turned around and told him that I was running away. He came out, gave me a big hug, and said his ever present consoling "Let's talk" phrase -- "Let's get a coke". So we went to 7-11 and got some cokes. I don't remember why I ran away, but I really remember my dad making it better.

And my dad isn't the lovey-dovey sort - he's the old school, gruff, authoritarian type.

Regardless, I love him to death.
