Run a hard disk at ATA 66

I recently built a new computer ( My first one)
It is a TB 900
FIC AZ11e
I am not able to run my hard disk at ATA 66 (MB supports ATA 100). The hard disk is quantum fireball AS. I have changed the IDE cable but still cannot make it to work at ATA 66. I run Win98 SE. Any pointers will be greatly appreciated

Some harddrives you have to change a jumper. Some you adjust thru
software. I just purchased a 30 gig WD. This weekend before
doing anything (fdisk, format, etc) I have to run WD diagnostic
software (their own boot disk) and disable ATA 66 and ATA 100 because
my MB only handles ATA 33.......Greg

Do you have the right cable? You need an 80 conducter cable, they have 40 pins on the connectors (which are color coded usually), and have a finer set of wires.

I got a ATA 66 Cable. The cable that came with the MB is suppposed to support even ATA 100. Do bus master drivers have anything to do with this

Not if it's booting and in the BIOS you see that it's not in ATA66, it's pre-OS. If in the POST you see it as ATA66, and when you get into Windows it's not, either how you are seeing this doesn't work or there's driver problems.

I just switched to ATA66 myself though (hard drive upgrade!), so I'm nto sure about hose points. I just know about the pre-OS part.
