Oh man, they just drilled him.

Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va.: "Mr. Secretary, I've watched you with a considerable amount of amusement. ... I've been here a long time, longer than you have. ... I've seen a lot of secretaries of defense. ... I don't think I've ever heard a secretary of defense who likes to lecture the committee as much as you. ...

"You may not like our questions but we represent the people. ... We ask the questions that the people ask of us whether you like it or not. ... The problem is we didn't ask enough questions at the beginning of this war that we got into, Mr. Bush's war. ...

"I don't mean to be discourteous. I've just heard enough of your smart answers to these people here who are elected. ... So get off your high horse when you come up here."

Rumsfeld didn't respond to those remarks.

It just goes to show you how sick of this war a majority of people are even in Red states.

Oh and lets not forget -

Rumsfeld engaged in contentious exchanges with committee Democrats.

?Isn?t it time for you to resign?? Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., asked the defense secretary, citing what he called ?gross errors and mistakes? in the U.S. military campaign in Iraq.

?I?ve offered my resignation to the president twice,? Rumsfeld shot back, saying that President Bush had decided not to accept it. ?That?s his call,? he said.

I dont think the comments of one of the most liberal democrats in the senate are particularly good evidence of how people in red states feel about the war.

yeah, i think you don't know much about the specific politicians. you're saying "the post about you....even he is sick of it" Well, the post above him was quoted by Ted Kennedy. I'm a democrat but I heard something very funny in the pres. debates:
Bush said something along the lines of "Kerry is so liberal he is making Kennedy known as the conservative senator from mass." If you don't get that statement/think it's funny then you dont know much about the senators.

Cliff: Kennedy is uber-liberal
Don't quote kennedy when you say "even he is sick of it" cause hes anti-war to the max.

its funny as heck to watch members of this failed Bush regime get their backs pinned to the wall, and have to own up to things. they really are disconnected from reality.

Good for them! It is nice to see that some people in government still do realize that they ultimately work for us and not vice-versa.

The difference is these days it is acceptable to call Bush Hitler, a nazi, druggie, drunk, etc... I have seen all of these in national media stories and pretty much on every liberal web site - including this one.

Yet, bringing up the past about Byrd or any other Democrat is totally off limits.

National news stories? Of course the media is reporting these allegations about Bush (drug related anyway), that is their job. And they have in the past and are now reporting information regarding Byrd's unsavory past. Why are you complaining? There is no disparity.

I said it's unreasonable to use both phrases...notice how I condemned both...:p

Wiki
During his campaign for the U.S. Senate in 1958, when Byrd was 41 years old, Byrd defended the Klan. He argued that the KKK had been incorrectly blamed for much of violence in the South. [7] Since then, Byrd has often referred to his Klan membership as a mistake of his youth. As recently as 1997, he told an interviewer he'd encourage young people to become involved in politics, but with this warning: "Be sure you avoid the Ku Klux Klan. Don't get that albatross around your neck.

Bring it up all you want. The fact is they nailed them and I think the majority of Americans agree and that majority will continue to increase until they start seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

Fool me once, shame on your, fool me twice, shame on me. The Bush cabinet has fooled the people once and they need to start dealing in facts, not feelings.

Organizing 150 people and signing them up for KKK service is more than a mistake.

The only thing he is sorry for is being associated with the klan, not the underlying attitude he holds.

I have no clue what you are talking about? Furthermore, when it comes to feelings and politics the 'sensitive' femen politicians on the left have the market cornered.
