if there's anything well-known about the middle east it's how rampant secularism is there and how opposed to intertwining religion and politics they are.

I see a lot of classifications on those documents. How did those get out?

I bet republicans unironically believe this is wholly appropriate, as if making this into a holy war is a good idea.

Those look fishy to me.

But then again with the war on Christianity these days, its not a suprise at all. They will get passed off as true and Christians will be the bad guys for the next week until they can find another "priest molestation" case, or come out with a new anti Catholic movie.

It looks like they are the top slide which itself may be unclassified though the overall classification is as indicated.

It is not at all unusual to see various quotations on the opening slide.

Former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld routinely used militaristic passages from the Bible on the cover pages of White House intelligence documents, according to new revelations by GQ magazine.

Reminding Bush that he was on a "crusade" (a word Bush used several times)?

I'm not sure which is worse, Rummy thinking this was appropriate (and effective), or Bush allowing it to continue.

I'm sure this says volumes about both Rummy and Bush, and I am now trying to decipher what is written on those pages. This is just too weird to digest in a moment.

It does not look like a legitimate classified document. I'm calling BS on this.

Lets face the facts, Dumsfeld was morally bankrupt, and patriotism and or God, is always the first and last refuge of scoundrels.

Its not exactly like its possible to have the bible police always handy to vett out every biblical reference some public figure utters.

What we needed was a litmus character test for people like Donald Rumsfeld, and everyone who knew anything had to know, that while Rumsfeld was a very smart guy, when it came to truth, character, and integrity, Rumsfeld never had it and never will. Even call the kettle black tricky Dickie saw that Rumsfeld was "sneaky bastard."

So what, Rumsfeld just used GOD as another clever tool to butcher the truth.

Yup, remember grunt, you're killing for god. And when you get a hooker, fuck her for virginity!

You're pathetic. The massive influx of religion into the military is deeply frightening. And if you're not scared, you're one of the sheep, or if you will, lambs.

Except for Iran, yes, that is actually true about most Middle Eastern Governments.

Why do you think they are helping us fight the Taliban and Al Qaida?

You couldn't handle it.

But seriously, show me your list of Islamic fundamentalist governments in the Middle East.

Woah...way to move the goal posts!

You just went from "Secular" to "fundamentalist."

Ill give you one more fundamentalist country just to prove your "other than Iran" statement wrong.

Hint: Women cant have drivers licenses there.

Those biblical quotations in Rumsfeld's documents are particularly troubling, as Rumsfeld himself is not particularly pious; I guess he was cynically trying to manipulate our gullible born-again president.

Sad that these cynical right-wing politicians use religion to goad the credulous to fight crusades. Some people used to doubt it. Smart Christians argued that no, no, no, that was quite impossible, faith brings strength, it doesn't blind you to reason and you can't reduce it to any religious cause.

Well, there's the smoking gun. One sheet of paper that shows that, yes, it really was that simple all along.

Sorry, my statement was "Except for Iran, yes, that is actually true about most Middle Eastern Governments."

I changed nothing, go read it again?

Did you read loki8481s post?

I don't understand your confusion.

Edit: Hold it...You didn't know Loki was being sarcastic?

That explains it...

Do you need a mulligan?

And you still think most are secular?

Saddam had one of the only secular governments in the entire region. The others are heavily influenced by Islam.

Just because they aren't all fundamentalist doesnt mean they are secular. There is a ton of space in between ;)

Uh, you are aware that "fundamentalist" and "secular" are opposite terms aren't you?

You're actually arguing that "most" ME governments are secular. Are you dense? "Not fundamentalist" does not mean "secular", just like "not round" does not mean "square". Wow. You're a walking advertisement for educational reform.

Fixed it for you. Go ahead and zero in on my typo instead of the fact that you claimed "most middle eastern countries are secular"

O.K it was a typo (thank goodness).

Now back to the game:

Yes, most middle eastern nations have secular governments.

Prove me wrong...please. ;)

If you cannot prove a majority of middle eastern governments to be non-secular, you owe me half a beer, fair enough?
