What's the best method of preparation? It's on sale this week and I was thinking to get a few to throw in the freezer.

I cook mine in a pressure cooker. I slice up an onion and line bottom of the pot. (I don't like my roast to actually touch the bottom of the pot as it can stick.) I put in approx a cup of water and a packet of onion soup mix. Cook time approx 3 hrs.

Edit: Yes, the meat should browned on all sides before cooking.

Crock pot is good, I suppose you can smoke it too. I never did a pressure cooker but I bet it would come out good too.

One of my favorite things to do with a roast is to brown it on all sides in a hot saute pan with a little bit of oil. Then I will slow cook it covered in the oven with onions, potatoes and carrots.

The science behind browning the meat is called the millard effect and it gives meat more flavor.

If you use a dutch oven, you don't have to transfer the meat, just throw it in the oven once you've browned all the sides on the stove top.
