Have there been any ES chips of IB 8 core chips yet?

I have seen screenshots from a 8 core SB ES chip a few months ago. They were quickly removed. But they were from a reliable source (the same one who first released the SB screenshots long ago).

Did he have any comments about it? If the prices are right on 2011 i'll def be moving up in 9 months

20Mb L3 (same L1 and L2 as current models). 8 cores with HT.

Thats all I saw. No mention of socket. No mention of price. No mention of PCIe version or lanes. No mention of # of IMCs.

Gigabyte also said in December that they had just begun working on the SB-E motherboards....so these are not due out anytime soon.

That 20lb of L3 is very interesting. As much as i'd love an 8 core i'll probably just move up to 6 depending on price. Kinda have a 500 dollar limit when it comes to processors

Looks like a formidable xeon competitor to AMDs 8module/16core 32mb cache Orochi Opteron die.

I think I am waiting for 22nm for 8 core. I will also move to 6 core on 32nm.

AMDs 8module/16core 32mb cache Orochi Opteron die.

Screenshots or it doesn't exist :)

Not sure how they would fit that on a die using 32nm technology, and keeping power @130W.....unless it was clocked very low.

Easy, its an MCM connected through Hypertransport. If you want details check AMDs server roadmaps.

Whats the TDP going to be on bulldozer? Sick of all these 130W processors.

I thought it was a 4 module, 8 core processor? From all I read on BD, I thought it was supposed to be a true 8 thread processor (not using HT any anything of the such). So based on that info, one could say that you are comparing a 8C no HT CPU to a 6C with HT CPU.

In any case, it is nice to seem AMD finally competing with Gulftown. Maybe this will help bring down prices. Just too bad AMD is late to the party. SB-E looks like it will be king (if rumors hold true).

Iono I'm disagreeing with this whole "exactly how many cores is it"...I thikn they used the word module to get away from core...have to start thinking 'out of the box' here - can't call a 4 module AMD an 8 core, because it isn't 8 real cores...its 4 modules lol. different layout, different design. if you can map 1:1 between today's core and BD's module, i invite you to try...but with some independent and some shared resources, it clearly shouldn't be viewed as a 'core'....and we'll know how this module performs once benchmarks are out ;)

They did it just to confuse us. :)

Are you gonna run Prime95 FFTs 24/7?, then theres nothing to worry about.

gets hot in my computer room during the summer. i'd like for as much power with as little wattage as possible rather than overclocked, i'm currently undervolted.

my graphics card is what puts out the heat. Processor rarely used, 90% of time at 2.1ghz (feels like the full 3.5 now that I've overclocked via the bus) and 1.07v.

Just as long as AMD can come close to Intel at mid-level performance everything should be good. I have a 2600k on the way but I still like using AMD chips in cheaper systems.

Wow you have to be a Zoner or a kissing cousin of one to read positively into "8 cores almost reaching 6 core" performance...

As someone said earlier, its not really a 6 core cause of hyperthreading IMO. But I think it's still a positive thing because AMD was so behind (and still is) Intel, and to be close to them is a good sign

if BD can match i7 980X performance IPC wise or not, it's quite an improvement for them. Going into this, from last year even, AMD exec already hinted they cannot beat Intel on per core IPC performance. But to match i7 980X isn't too shabby. Provided it's quite OCable and reasonablly priced, no one can complaint an i7 980X ish performance is slow. I'd say as long as the price is right, it can sell.
