I'm not sure why I should be fired because I don't want to work there. I come in every day, on time, bust my ass to do my work, and never cause problems. I just don't like the job.

I would quit if I didn't have any bills or could find a new job, but I do have bills and I've been looking for a new job for over a year now.

Problem is that as a boss, the last thing you want on your mind is to loose an employee and go find another one. Its very hard to find quality employees. The fact that you will leave when given a chance means you are first on the chopping block. Your boss is not going to wait for the inevitable.

It's not secret that I want to leave
This is a MAJOR problem.

If I knew of an employee who "wanted to leave" I would start interviewing his replacement and then do it on my schedule. Never, ever show your hand to your employer. There is nothing to win unless you are crucial and feel you can use that to gouge a good raise out of them. I heard that happen once. And it didn't last long; the guy eventually got booted anyway.

So when your boss asked you about this rumor it is in fact true. You just don't have a job yet, but mentally you've already left and want to and will. The details are unimportant.

BTW, nobody should ever, ever. ever ever ever indicate intent to leave until they have an _actual_ written offer in hand from a new company.

Always limit the amount you complain about work even to co-workers who appear trustworthy. This is what wives are for, not work.

Granted, I was in a meeting on Friday so boring I actually had to vent to everybody I could find but by God it was out of my hands then. You had to be there.
1. I'm so glad I don't work in an office that has this puerile, pathetic culture of rumour milling to it. People come to work, do their job and enjoy each others' company without the need for childish bullshit like this.
If you're even half the "person" in real life you are on AT it's no wonder people don't talk to you.
