Fill up tonight if you need to, don't wait. My dad works in an oil-based business and called me this evening and told me to fill up if I needed to. Luckily I had filled up this morning.

Panic mode = ON

Lately, if the sun comes up it's an excuse to raise oil prices. I have seen hurricanes over the past 20 years and gas prices have never been affected until this year.

I said the same thing earlier. I think they just figured out that the consumer will swallow it now.

I heard on the raido that texas has no more oil!
Thats %25 of our crude oil!

I also heard that Rita may not exist and its all a ploy so the government can tax gas more! This is like Wag the Dog only it's not a movie!

I filled it up last night @ 2.83/gallon.

saw this price hike coming since monday. I am expecting $1-1.5 jump, possibly hit it to $2/gallon. good thing is I am not gonna fill up again in 2 weeks.

A good chunk of oil production in the gulf has been shutdown because of Katrina. A quarter of oil refining has been shutdown for a couple of weeks since Katrina. That'll have an effect on gas prices that are already high because of supply issues.

Hopefully, Galveston won't be adversely affected otherwise we are looking at having 50% of our refining capacity shutdown.

Do NOT change your normal gas buying habits.

Unless you buy less. Do not more buy more. Do not rush down and fill up if you don't need to. This type of needless panic is more responsible for raising gas prices than the damn hurricanes. Simple laws of supply and demand at work here.

Sure it does however consider this.

Who in their right mind is going to let the tank in their Suburban sit on 0.25 TODAY knowing that tomorrow or the day after prices could be $1.00 or more per gallon? So the fun begins and lines form. Most folks here are too young to remember 1973 or even 1979.

Good thing I have no use for gas!

Maybe in the very short term, but people aren't going to drive more now because they know gas prices will go up in the future.

you don't think the price increase will happen regardless of whether people "panic" or not ? Don't kid yourself.

I agree, except not me inparticular. I filled up this morning because I was on empty. Personally, I could give a rat's ass. I drive a fuel efficient car and work @ home.

Yeah... you know gas prices are going to go up regardless of whether they SHOULD, because there will be enough people who panic. So it's only logical to fill your tank now, even though you know the demand is artificial.

The only people who can sit back and laugh at everyone else who is "panicking" (or reacting to the situation as any rational person would) are those for whom a substantial rise in gas prices will not significantly affect them financially. i.e. me - I burn a gallon a week going to work. SUCKERS!!! ;)

Kent Brockman: So, professor: would you say it's time for everyone to panic?
Professor: Yes I would, Kent.

Kent Brockman: Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?
Professor: Mmm, yes I would, Kent.

things i hate:

1. panicky people (ignorant buffoons who cause panic for no reason)
2. oil and gas companies

although if i owned a gas or oil company im sure my list would change
