[Rumor (Various)] AMD R7/9 3xx / Fiji / Fury

I think the Nano might be the biggest deal out of the bunch, given it has to slot way below the vanilla Fury on the price curve and therefore compete directly against the 980's current price.

Yea, I know a lot are, but I am not really interested in an expensive, hugely powerful card. I game at 1080p with a low end sandy i5, and dont want to upgrade either the cpu or the monitor, or even my 460 watt psu for that matter. But my HD7770 is really due for an upgrade if I want to play newer games.

So mid/high performance, efficiency and small size are what interest me. Sounds like the Nano should fit the bill for all of these, but again, lets wait for pricing and real world gaming tests. I am not saying they are bogus, but who knows if these efficiency claims are based on real world gaming or some highly optimized artificial benchmark. 290X performance at 150 watts just seems too good to be true, but maybe they did it.

How precious; you have convinced yourself that Nvidia gave away near Titan X performance at that price point because they wanted to ease the burden on their customers wallets. It had nothing to do with hedging for upcoming market changes.

Yup, if Nvidia priced 980ti higher (which Nvidia most likely wanted to) pre Fiji press release and tried to lower price after the press release you would have alot of pissed off 980ti owners and vendors (who'd have to pricematch).

So in the document posted above, AMD mentions this:

Code:
• A minimum of 8 GB of system memory.
For dual-card installation, a minimum of 16 GB of system memory is
recommended.

I wonder if they are using system memory as a cache to get around the 4GB limitation?

I think this is typical for any video card... IIRC the Titan X recommended 24GB, at least I remember reading something about that on the EVGA forums...

Mark Huddy was not impressive at all. The only parts of the presentation that were interesting were the Fiji discussion (Thanks Lisa Su) and when game developers took over.

He should be let go. This is a crucial release for AMD and his portion of the presentation was depressing and underwhelming. The puns were awful. Also, "Chief Gaming Scientist"... give me a break.

I'm really excited for the Fiji Nano. I hope the pricing makes sense.

ahhahaha, see, it is always better to wait for the official stuff 😎

this is about as in your face as it gets for all the doomsayers 😉

What's with the hype? Seriously. This forum pretty much predicted exactly on the dot with the exception of the nano (and that is coming much later).

- WC edition and air cooled.
- 4096 shaders @ 1050 mhz on the top SKU
- 4 GB HBM
- $649 (same as 980 Ti).
- rest of the lineup straight up rebrands

You already knew this. Its not that I don't like what happened but there is absolutely nothing new here.

The rest of the lineup matches the absolute worst predictions (straight up rebrands with no changes except vram increases) dipping into the absolute bottom (no full tonga, pitcarin rebrands with 1024 shaders).

IMO I expect AMD's efficiency improvements to be about as accurate as Nvidia's maxwell 2x efficiency improvements.

Yea the guy is awkward but who cares. Lisa Su is a great CEO too bad she was not at the helm long ago.

The 1050mhz speed is good IMHO. It (hopefully) means there is some headroom to OC these more.

Really wanted more info on the Pro...I don't want the watercooled X.

Nothing? Really? We got to SEE the products clearly for the first time, got confirmation on Fury X, Fury Nano, Fury, and Fury X Maxx the dual GPU. And we got perf/watt numbers as well. And we got a release date when you can buy the X, June 24th. Yea nothing new.

Fury Nano looks amazing this is a new class of graphics card.

I don't know why people keep insisting it is a "straight up rebrand" when at minimum you have:
+50MHz core
+250MHz memory
+4GB VRAM

With BIOS and driver improvements along with binning I could see 390X having 10%+ performance versus 290X at equal or slightly lower power consumption.

So it'd be closer to a "GHz" edition than a "straight rebrand", at minimum.

But really the game changer is Fiji. And especially the Nano with claimed 2x perf/watt

We didn't know it. Those things were amongst a million other things we "knew".

Dont get me started on that Huddy guy! I agree, I just refuse to even listen to or read his comments anymore, unless I am just in a mood where I want to piss myself off.

I really cant bring myself to listen to these PR fests, from either AMD, nVidia, or Intel, but I have to say I am impressed so far with the efficiency improvements, assuming they hold up in real world gaming benchmarks.

I'd like to see a rumor roundup. I remember hearing "nano" and stuff about dual GPU cards that a lot of people seemed to dismiss.

And it looks like those very early leaks with the 8.6 tflops number were correct.

Maybe because you can pretty much get all of those on the 290 series today? Higher clocks, check. Faster memory, check. 8GB 290s? Check. Nothing new here, except the price.

Fury is the only products to look forward to. If you don't want a $500+ GPU, get 1 or 2 290s right now., before they are gone.

I just can't believe 390X is going far with Fuji so close in price. I can't see any reason to buy 390X unless the price drops a lot.

The lower end Fuji cards should kill the 390X, unless something else is at play.

there is only one way to make sense of his posts, and we can't name it without getting modded :whiste:

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd comb through these pages and add the repetitive loony apocalyptic posts made by some here and keep it as my sig.
