and its overclocked for that 208W. if true. That's huge in my book. 100MHz over stock boost iirc.

seems MSI uses lower TDP

Tanks for the info. 208w was really a odd number for TDP.

I can't wait for the gtx 980ti aib oc results pitted against fiji wce stock reference. Because the America gpu community is just so objective

Have you not taken onboard that NV have started releasing drivers to improve kepler performance or are you just ignoring it while continue to peddle NV deliberately lied about the 970. 290\x & 7xxx lasted so long, as AMD didnt have anything else to sell, so had so choice to ring as much as they could out of those products.
Strange how some people complain there isnt enough GPU launches, yet when NV keep releasing better products, they get canned for not concentrating enough on previous releases...Funny.

Well, at least from my perspective, it's hard to see how NV's more-regular release schedule is so difficult to keep up with from a driver perspective. NV used to have a sterling reputation in drivers, I remember that a few years that was one of the most-compelling arguments that you could make in favor of buying NV: you could buy one and then be confident that drivers for the card, for sli, whatever, would be better than AMD or at least as good for the life of the card.

Now, there is a serious question about either NV's ability to keep their drivers up to date on the old cards, or, more nefariously, as to whether they deliberately negelected those drivers in order to encourage old customers to upgrade more often. Perhaps they just can't afford a decent driver team...but, based upon the company's behavior over the past 10+ years and the huge profits that they are making, I'd say that the preponderance of the evidence points to the latter.

That's hilarious coming from NV followers who bashed AMD's frame times with HD7000 series but AMD actually worked to fix the problem instead of closing their eyes because R9 200 series was release. I guess it's OK that R9 270X crushes 580 by 30%, that 680 can't even beat an R9 280 today and 960 OC coming close to 780Ti in some titles.

Are you saying that tom's video card comparison chart is wrong??? Oh, the humanity!

You do realize the only time "aftermarket" cards are used is when there is no reference design, right? Look at 285 reviews, same situation...

Tom's should have downclocked their 960 to reference speeds, like Anandtech and TPU do when they only receive factory OC'd cards.

my money is best utilized by being in the pockets of graphics card companies.

I realize you were being sarcastic here, but I often feel like this irl...

Speaking of which, my gtx 480 kind of sparked, made a funny noise, then left me with a burning smell when I tried to fire up my 2500k rig the other day. Time for a new gpu for a rig that I haven't used in 18 months? I think so!

Only having some fun folks.

The History of GPUs [2025]

The popular term Kepler Syndrome was first coined by 'xthetenth' in an Anandtech forum page and was meant to indicate the rapid fall in performance of the previous generation Nvidia GPU products vis a vis the competition. This was first noticed in the Kepler > Maxwell transition.

The Kepler Syndrome is very serious in fact it is so serious that it annoyed my water cooling even more than it annoyed me after trying to enjoy the Witcher 3. What came of this is a burned card, my WC decided it was time to retire those Keplers and then it leaked burning my card in the process. The other one is being diagnosed. First I need to be 100% sure that it is dry.

Not too terribly excited for 300 series. HDMI looks like version 1.4, and not 2.0.

Basically silicon respin and a bump in clocks.

That's the best they managed for the entire 300 series in almost 2 years.

They could have put tonga in 390x - that would've been good bump.

I am sure all of their 300 series full tonga chips are spoken for by the next Gen iMac 5k Retina which will likely debut sometime in September.

This thread has been dangerous read for me 😀 I'm planning on new rig later this Summer / early Autumn and this thread has gotten me too hyped for Fiji. I'm on 1080p monitor and still seriously thinking possible investment in Fiji just to support AMD...

That said how good GPU bench ArmA 3 is? I'm wrong to assume that drawing distance on e.g. Altis would be used? Even then I can't but wonder how being very CPU bound engine/game would affect results.

290 or maybe 390 would be the way to go if you like AMD, but keep an eye on 970 and 980 prices as you get closer to your purchase. The last time that AMD actually had the performance crown, NV got crazy on prices and took the price/performation title back. It's cool to support the underdog and all that, but a wise consumer does what is best for him personally rather than allowing himself to get hyped up for one company or the other.

I think that 2500K deserves better! Its like your 2500k and GTX 480 were a young married couple. One stayed fit and ate healthy, the other smoked and drank heavily. The 2500k is ready to get back out there and meet a new video card. Still has tons of life left in it!

The 390/390X are probably just cards to fill a void in AMD's product lineup and a hold over until a node change next year. I think the Fiji pro will be the card to lookout for - hopefully the pricing is not too outrageous.

It's also interesting to think about how more VRAM on the upper mid range parts actually makes sense - though we will never admit it - because the people buying the very high end cards dump them in 6 months for the next card, but the people buying the middle of the road cards are probably more value oriented and hold on to them for a generation or two, making the extra (8GB) of vram actually worthwhile. 8GB of HBM would be nice, but I don't think we're going to see it. I think the Fiji XT with 4GB of VRAM will be a fast high end GPU, but be a bit of a quirky product in a year or two from now if and when it starts to run into VRAM limitations.

People are acting like the performance isn't there isn't mind boggling. Maybe you just want new chips just because but the 290x was Never far away way from the 980 in performance. What mind boggling idiot would redesign a whole new lineup from top to bottom and release it now? No, they did top end only, which is probably to help figure out techniques for the node shrink, and refreshed their already strong lineup.

The market doesn't see it as a strong lineup but seriously if amd had refreshed the whole lineup up with brand new chips at each level, nvidia would a) pricedrop b) do nothing. Because they're in so strong of a position that amd doesn't effect them that much. That's what happens when you're at the top of the game.

But this is an enthusiast forum it a business acumen forum so understanding the disappointment.

I lol'd at that. 😀
