where do you see people hyping 8k gaming? the whole hype thing is just certain people making a fuss over a gpu that is coming next week. thats your/their own fault if they hype themselfes too much up.

If that stuff a few posts up is accurate then AMD is certainly hyping '6k' gaming. And it would be pretty [disingenuous] of them to post all those 8k screenshots and then be like "won't it be cool in 5 years when GPUs can do that? Anyway here's the fury x"

Profanity isn't allowed in the technical forums.

Nobody can honestly believe that GPUs produced today will be capable of driving 8K displays for gaming purposes. Hell, 4K is still considered a bleeding edge resolution and requires multiple GPUs.

Read page 23, for starters...

And I agree, it will be their own fault for hyping it too much. I see it a lot surrounding the Fiji release. AMD could come out with an awesome card that competes well with the 980 Ti, but those that hyped themselves into the atmosphere will be left feeling disappointed.

the 8K screenshots are just marketing images that don't really mean much considering there are no 8K monitors out on the market

Fiji will be judged by its 4K performance when it eventually gets released & reviewed

No but it seems they are setting up for something related to 8k gaming. I suspect they want to prove that 4gb isn't a limitation in the near term.

Fury X -> ??? -> 8k gaming

Hype he says.....please. Anyone can see that it was pure speculation on why AMD would be posting 8k screenshots. Aside from that, do you honestly think that AMD's marketing strategy was just to show they can take an post 8k screenshots?

There are no 8k monitors, but Eyefinity or VSR has the possibility to hit 8k.

I got my 4k display ready and my pennies are waiting. After running 6GB VRAM for over 2years now it's going to be very difficult for me to go back to 4GB. We'll see if ATI can deliver.

Is just marketing people! They did the same with the 290X marketing for 4K.

Did they? They promoted 4k gaming with the 290x? Show me. (I think you are thiking of the 295x2?)

They are promoting "6k, no problem" and posting 8k screen shots... I expect them to be able to smash 4k 🙂

Meanwhile, 980ti and Titan X struggle on real 4k with Ultra and AA on top titles... So this could look ugly for them if AMD does it "no problem" 😛

Too bad Ryan seldom pops in. A subtle hint on performance would be nice. Even a one word response could somewhat tell performance.

I really can't wait. it feels like I've had my 295x2s for ages and I get slow downs in towns in Arma 3 at 4k with 4xMSAA so I think more memory will help. AMD I have money here begging to be spent with you, please don't disappoint!
I just hope we get the Fury Xx2 very soon and someone posts some arma 3 benchmarks.

And the first benchmark that they let the sites shows was a 4K bench of the 290X vs 780.

This thread has been dangerous read for me 😀 I'm planning on new rig later this Summer / early Autumn and this thread has gotten me too hyped for Fiji. I'm on 1080p monitor and still seriously thinking possible investment in Fiji just to support AMD...

That said how good GPU bench ArmA 3 is? I'm wrong to assume that drawing distance on e.g. Altis would be used? Even then I can't but wonder how being very CPU bound engine/game would affect results.

It's not such a good benchmark due to multiple variables but it's the only game I play a lot. A draw distance of 4k and 3.2k seems reasonable and with an overclocked 5960x or 4790k we'd get an idea. I noticed a huge leap in performance going from 6990 quadfire to 295x2 quadfire, I want a similar improvement again as it's both CPU and GPU and everything else bound for that matter!
My VRAM usage is always maxed in afterburner which is the only metric that is consistently maxed.
If Fury X can eliminate occasional stutters and hiccups I'm all in!
