Rumor: PS3 price cut after E3?

Just talked to the girl in electronics@UberTarget, and she said they are going to have the $100 price cut middle of next week. She wasn't certain if I bought it now, if I could get the 14 day price guarantee though, because it is usually just for sale items. I'll just wait it out, and use my 10% off= PS3 for $450+ tax and 5 free Blu-ray movies FTW.

80GB PS3 shipping without the PS2 chip confirmed

We're still attempting to confirm what the new red light means on the PS3 controller from Sony*, but what we can confirm is that the new 80GB PS3 will have limited backwards compatibility. Clearly stated on the box, the system has apparently gotten rid of the chip previously used for US backwards compatibility and switched over to the European software version.

The box states: "This product has limited backwards compatibility with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 format software ... visit www.us.playstation.com for system software update." We're attempting to find out if the new 60GB versions rolling off the assembly line will also switch over to the BC software. So, if you're really into your old PS and PS2 games, might want to check and see if they are compatible with the software or get a system currently available before the switch.

Ouch..

I just hope they dont disable the existing systems chips in firmware, and force software emulation for all..

Well, unless they want to send me a $100 check that is.. Then I wouldn't mind.

I don't see why they would even contemplate that.

That's really strange, and it makes the $100 price gap between the 60GB and 80GB models even harder to rationalize.

The less configurations to QA in future firmware releases, the better ( for them ). Not likely I'll admit, but definitely plausible.

Just got back from work at Gamestop tonight, and we've already marked the price down to $499. As for tonight, though, I didn't see a single PS3 system or game come across the counter 🙂. I'm so tempted to buy one before they take the EE hardware out, but I just don't know if I can swing it 🙁.

i have a feeling that they are going to stop producing the 60gigers and when they run out, they'll only make the 80gigers...i think they want to upgrade the system.
