I don't know if you are aware but OpenGL in Unreal Tournament is considered BETA. Don't blame NVIDIA or any other video card company if you experience problems with OpenGL on Unreal Tournament. Epic never finished the OpenGL implimentation for Unreal Tournament. Anyone who has a Mac know if there is an option for OpenGL in Unreal Tournament or is it strictly Rave only?

For the record I have a GF DDR, previously I've had a TNT1&amp;2, and a V2&amp;3, been very satisfied with all cards, and I mind neither nVidia nor 3dfx.

So, would you please stop trolling and either ask for help with whatever problem you have, which is part of what this board is about, or please shut up?

And Dave, funny, I've never noticed that, but I guess maybe Im just lucky.

The GTS suffers from much greater drops and fluctuations in framerates than the other current cards. I have played extensively with Radeon and Voodoo5, and they have more consistent framerates, and don't suffer the same drastic drops as the GTS. The GTS also suffers from much more stuttering and jerkiness than the other 2 cards. I've seen it. I've played it. I know it to be true. The image quality of my GTS is not nearly as good as either of the other two cards mentioned either. The drivers? Well, the original Detonator 3's were perhaps the sloppiest thing Nvidia ever put out. They were rushed out the door because the other cards were breathing down the GTS's neck, and in many cases beating it. This is where the problem started. There were so many sacrifices made to get those Det3's out the door, that Nvidia has been busy ever since trying to fix all the problems they caused. And most of the leaked drivers have actually decreased my performance slightly. And while they might fix a problem I have with a particular game, they create another one to replace it. There are very few games that the GTS gives me satisfactory performance with, and I guess that's the bottom line eh? On the whole, the card is disappointing to me, and to many other I know.&quot;

Just because you think the GTS sucks, it doesn't mean that the Radeon or Voodoo 5 are any better -- based on your small use with them. The most highly hyped up card on these forums is the Radeon, simply because of the advertising on the top of the web pages. It's proof that the ads are working -- though many are buying it based purely on 2D image quality and pure HYPE, completely ignoring the buggy driver support in Win2k and graphic problems (16 bit color support comes to mind). If you're looking for the perfect video card for games, you're going to be looking a LONG TIME. Did you ever think for a moment that the GAME itself has issues with the GTS? Do you ever read the readme support files that come with the games? In most cases, it's a software problem. That's what GAME PATCHES are for.

Disagree, call me a &quot;fanboy,&quot; whatever. The fact remains that if you go buy a Radeon or a Voodoo 5, you're likely to run into the same problem with certain GAMES. This is not to say that you will run into any problems, but someone else will, since their system config -- other than the video card -- differs from yours. If you need proof, go check out ATi, 3Dfx, and nVidia's tech support pages and newsgroups for games. Find me a game that has absolutely NO SINGLE VIDEO ISSUE with any current video card. Im asking him to at the very least tell us what problems he's having, and either lave it at that or ask for help with them, rather than just mindlessly flame away about how the GTS sucks and how he's having all these problems, problems he wont share with us.

As for me being a nVidiot, fanboy, zaelot, whatever, I guess thats since you havent been around for very long, since I think I've recomended more Matrox and 3dfx cards than nVidia cards lately.
And by the way, just this last friday I ordered a V3-2K, which is the second V3 I've ordered for myself.

Hi Compellor. People buying the Radeon has nothing to do with some add on the forums. People have been buying and loving the card since
day 1, and way before any adds were appearing here. Perhaps it was the way the Radeon smoked the GeForce2 in most 32-bit benchmarks when it launched. (yes I know the Detonator drivers changed that) Perhaps it was the superior 32-bit image quality for gaming. Perhaps it was the superior 2D image quality for desktop. Perhaps it was the HyperZ technology. Perhaps it was the many other great features, or DX8 support. Perhaps it was the best DVD playback. And so on and so on ...........

I had no intentions of mentioning anything about any other cards in this thread but since you incorrectly assume that people only buy things because of adds, and you try to diminish a great card, I just thought I would point these things out. The Radeons are excellent cards, and every bit as good as a normal GF2. A little better in some ways, a little worse in others, but as a whole, every bit as good. Anybody who tries to say otherwise is just kidding themselves.

Am I saying anything bad about Nvidia or GeForce2? NO. I'm just saying the Radeons are great cards also.

I do agree with one thing you said Compellor. There is no such thing as the perfect card, that's for sure. I guess there never will be either. Heck, even when NV20, Radeon2, and Rampage get here, we will already be talking about NV25, Radeon3, and Rampage2.

Anyway, no harsh feelings from me, it's all good. I now return you to your regularly scheduled argument about Nvidia drivers. 😉

Pidge, I wouldn't touch DominoBoy's card. He obviously has a defective card, or perhaps since he is a &quot;True Gamer&quot; he overclocked it incorrectly, and damaged it.

Using the word &quot;Fanboy&quot; is a derogatory remark or insult, the way DominoBoy uses it. No different than the insults thrown his way. But even though he insults me regularly, I see no need to get into a name calling match with this child.

You can not base bad drivers on 1 game, such as UT. After upgrading to a GeForce2 GTS, and correctly removing 3dfx files, registry entries, and doing a fresh install of UT, it would lock up and crash regularly, or even fail to start. Driver issues? Nope. Re-formatting drive, and re-installing everything, and now all is 100% perfect using leaked drivers 6.47. In fact, the extra 400 meg of compressed textures that the GeForce2 can now use, (something 3dfx cards cannot do), makes UT on a Geforce2 the best looking game out there.

TimTim, I tend to get a bit carried away sometimes when discussing video cards, since there tend to be so many of these annoying zaelots praising nVidia, 3dfx, ATi or whatever company they like.
It just gets sooo annoying after a while.

More flamming everyday?Anyway I use the 6.31 drivers &amp; have NO PROBLEMS in gaming ,which I do alot of,infact I have never had problems gaming wise with Nvidia drivers,even with Creative drivers before this, I wish some people would stop telling lies infact they don`t even own a Nvidia card,I`m no Computer engineer expert but if I can get them to work with no hassle then anyone can.

Only at 1600x1280 which hardly anyone plays, unless you have a Geforce 2 Pro or Geforce 2 Ultra.

Perhaps it was the texture corruption and bleeding I saw in some D3D games. Or the crappy 16-bit image quality or the horrible performance in Windows 2000.

I have a DX8 application which has problems with the ATI AIW Radeon with their DX8 drivers. So much for DX8 support. But its only beta so my final judgement is still out.

I used PowerDVD and I see no difference except for the higher CPU utilization that the Geforce 2 GTS uses. Anyone check out PowerDVD 3? Its pretty cool. Has a setting for headphones to give a virtual surround sound much like the A3D card did for games.

I bought the ATI AIW Radeon because I thought ATI had stable drivers according to some people here in this forum. Little did I know that ATI was up to their old tricks with their drivers.

Yeah. It is all around just as good. But the Geforce 2 GTS is not crap. If it is according to peoples standards, then I can find many reasons why the ATI Radeon is crap as well. Anyways, there are some people who I really respect who love their ATI Radeons and some who love their Geforce 2 GTS. I am very happy with my NVIDIA and 3dfx cards so that is all that matters to me. Now I am off to find these NVIDIA underwear that everyone is raving about 🙂
