Saw this at another forum I frequent.

Text

MS *may* be releasing a new version of the xbox. This one will have the Controller S (sounds like it might replace the standard one), the (current modchips won't work) xbox, and Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future both on one DVD.

There were also shots of the new packaging that someone had posted from another forum, which lists the controller S and the two games on it.

Console price stays the same, $200 for the bundle.

I may have to pick one up now, I'll prolly wait until after Christmas though. My Toy fund was just depleated by my digicam purchase and the reserve toy fund (ie: college book money) is probably going to be spent on an M1 Garand :D

Looks like this is for real :).

Repost check, xbox

Sweet! Looks like I'll be holding off my Xbox purchase for a couple weeks.

I probably wouldn't to buy one that the modchip wouldn't work on.

For those that don't care about that, it sounds like a good deal, if it's true.

Remember it is a rumor still. Like the $50 price cut.

However, this seems more logical then the price drop. They just announced the new consoles (that the mod chips don't work on [yet]) so this would be a logical way to roll them out. Both JSRF and Sega GT aren't huge sellers and aren't new games (but still look good). And apparently the xbox controller S is selling so well its hard to find.

Someone was also saying that a lot of new games are showing the controller S as the layout for buttons and such inthe manuals, so this might herald the replacement of the old controller with the new one. They can add a lot of percieved value to the console and not drop prices (and lose more money on each console)

Edit: The modchip thing is kind of an issue for me too, cause I'd like to be able to play divx/mp3s/vcds/progressive scan DVDs on mine. Heck, if there was an offical disk that did all that stuff, I'd buy it, that'd be the only reason I'd mod one.

Um, Sega GT 2002 was released sometime last month. What's your definition of "new?"

Luckily for me, I don't care about the modchip, but I do like the new controller and getting GT 2002 would cause me to buy one today.

the post says this
"Evil Avatar.com site Gremlins send along word that starting on October 15th Microsoft will launch the new package bundle for the Xbox console system. The new package will contain the Xbox console, a Controller S, and two full version Sega games on one DVD: Sega Rally & JetSet Radio Future. The system price will stay the same."

According to this thread, Microsoft said they WILL cut the price to $150 on 9/23 too, which never happened.

I just bought NFL Fever 2003, and all of the on-screen controller images are of the S. I still have the old one though.

This is awesome news...and I think is a good way to prime the pump for the all-important Christmas season.
Couple this new bundle with the free dvd kit (AR), and the launch of Xbox Live (just a month later) and I think Xbox will have a very healthy season this year.

They have DESPERATELY needed to bundle in the controller S for a long time now.

The X-Box has had a pretty solid grip on the power gaming crowd since it came out. That's why it's sold many times the games per console as the PS2 and Gamecube.

The PS2 still dominates with casual gamers. I was at a Best Buy the other day, and this lady was looking to buy a console for her eight year old kid. She asked how much the games on the X-Box cost. "Most are $50, since the console and games are new." Too much. Then she spotted the bargain bin full of $20 PS2 titles, and that's all the convincing she needed.

But the new bundle should help the X-Box score big points with the casual gaming crowd. They see two software titles to the PS2's none, and it's a major factor for them.

The X-Box has also done a mediocre job of getting out the word that the X-Box saves you money on memory cards and - increasingly - addons as such as broadband adapter and hard drive, which will cost $$$ on the X-Box.

The new bundle seems to be doing well. I was at Babbages today at 1:00 p.m. and they were all sold out of the Xbox bundle.

Does the X-Box have a broadband ethernet adapter yet? If so, how much is it?

How much is BB's extended warranty for the X-Box?
