Well I just went to 2 FYE's and 2 Gamestops. The first FYE said they were dont taking pre-orders and had taken 5 rounds. THey then told me that even the people who preordered them may not get them on street date, and that the street date of November 17th is no longer confirmed (from calls the store received). She then went on and said that some people who preordered them may not get them until Xmas 2007. At the 2nd FYE, they said the same thing aside from them taking 5 rounds of preorders.

I then asked about the Wii and they said they are taking preorders, but it's not guaranteed to have it on street date either, so I opted to not take a pre-order on one just yet.

So I then went to gamestop. I know they aren't taking preorders for eithe ryet, but I decided to play dumb. I asked about the PS3 and wii, and he said that in the past 48 hours they had received phone calls about the PS3 street date of November 17th not being guaranteed anymore (just like FYE) and that it could be pushed back till March 2007. I then asked about the Wii and he said they ar waiting on allocations until they take preoders, and to check the first week of October. He then said that week they will know what's going on with the PS3 too.

So it looks like if this delay is true we will see in the next few weeks. But I find it kind of strange that 4 stores gave me the same exact information. This was from 2 different malls as well.

Believing gaming rumors coming from a homeless crackhead would be more reliable than a game store employee.

oh cmon, they say this about every new console that comes. When I tried to snag up a few more 360's before Xmas I was told, blah blah, no new shipments till spring and so on from various retailers, but sure enough more came in. I've worked at an EB and Bestbuy and can tell you that they are pulling sh!t out of their asses. A few of my friends work at EB's and Gamestops and they tell customers BS like, "no more 360's for another year!" all the time and I've called them out on it numerous times in front of customers, their guess is as good as yours. Also what is up with all these people wanting a company to fail? If the PS3 we're to fail, we the consumers would be SOL.

Except the PS3 has had so many more problems than the XB360 had - very low yield/shipment numbers (400,000 in North America, while Wii is planning for 4 million...), overheating components, problems in 1080p, price, etc etc etc. Sony is in a big sh!thole with the PS3 and they need to work hard to get out of it.

how do you figure?

do you like monopolized worlds? Nintendo isn't that far-reaching here in America anymore, and with the Wii not having the capability for intense graphics (necessary in some eyes, and I'd agree. Not all games have to have great graphics, but its a great option to have), that would leave the X360 the only great-graphics system out there. Think it may be bad now? Game prices may soar if thats the case, same with addon prices.
You want competition. That's where fanboys are idiots. they want one console and dont want others to exist. You need multiple consoles to keep prices in check.

Pardon me, but the 360 had shipment woes, as well as heat issues and red circles of death no? The difference is that MS did not resolve the heat issue prior to the 360 launch, Sony has yet to release the PS3 so your statement about heat-issues is moot to us, the consumers thus far. If heat issues arise when the PS3 is released, then we can bitch and whine about it. Also, why is Sony a big "sh!thole with the PS3"? When is a console release not hard work? Do you understand that this is a business?

$600 for a console is keeping prices in check

I'm not 100% positive on this, but I personally don't remember 360 having shipment woes. They never claimed to have X consoles to be shipping on launch and then turn out to be X/3 consoles on launch. Again I'm not positive about this, but I just can't recall them claiming exact figures they backing out on it.

If the PS3 is not ready to be shipped then a delay is welcome IMO. I personally wish the 360 was delayed until Spring 06. When the 360 was first out, after about a month, you started to realize how not "next-gen" the 360 really was. There weren't any "must have" games for the 360 at launch (and still aren't IMO), and the hardware was just not reliable. Even MS realizes the launch 360's were built like crap, why else would they be offering people who have systems made before 2006 an extended 1 year warranty or your money back if you already paid for the system to be repaired?

you think people would pay 6-800 dollars if it was just a console?

Eh... since the mid 80s there has always been two dominant players in the console market. It just keeps changing. Used to be Nintendo and Atari, then Nintendo and Sega, then Nintendo and Sony, then Sony and Microsoft. Maybe now it will be Nintendo and Microsoft? I don't see a monopoly emerging this generation.

No concrete numbers were given but I remember at the time of launch, consumers, editorials and even a few microsoft officials (Moore, and Bach) stated that they are having trouble keeping up with demand.

do you honestly believe it would cost that much without those extra features, such as blu-ray? No, it would have normal costs. I for one am glad they are kind of forcing the format, because the format needs to stick. The only reason I see it having trouble is because the launch of blu-ray is basically very late. HD-DVD has the heads-up in this one, and only because they were early.
either way, without a monopoly, I wouldn't expect to see console prices below the manufacturing price point. Sony will be losing money on the PS3, a good chunk of money too.

given the Wii isn't even truly competiting against Microsoft, with a failed PS3, that would be a monopoly in the terms of the next generation market. Wii is Gamecube with added features. not that I dont like the wii, just that it won't compete in the sense that PS3 and X360 will.

not to mention the fact that there is always a smaller third party that does sell to some extent. Even with Nintendo and Sega, there was TurboGraphix and 3DO, to name 2 (bad attempt, I know)...

Sounds to me like Sony is playing the "low expectations game." They start out by telling you how great the thing is and all the features it's going to have, then they slap a hefty price tag on it and people get upset. Right before it's released the price goes down and everybody wants it. It's sorta like having gas prices at $3.50, then dropping them to $2.50. A few years ago I filled up my tank at $.99 a gallon, but now that gas has dropped to $2.50 it feels like a bargain. Anyways, I really know nothing about these consoles, but it would really surprise me if a company such as Sony, who has produced two excellent consoles (the PSX being my favorite console of all-time) doesn't know what they're doing.

You keep saying this, but that doesn't make it true. To say that it isn't competing because it is not as powerful is arbitrary and frankly, stupid. It makes as much sense as saying that the Xbox 360 isn't truly competing with the Wii and PS3 because its controller has no motion sensing capabilities. Or the PS3 isn't competing with the Wii and 360 because its controller has no rumble feature. Arbitrary and stupid. PS2 had the worst graphics of the bunch last time around, and it still outsold both competitors by a large margin. People don't just care about graphics. A much bigger factor is what games are available. The Wii looks to get a lot more third party support this time around.
