lololol. Wow. If that turns out to be true it will be the most pointless video card to ever hit the shelves.

"Ummm yes I need a 8800gts. However, it needs half the RAM of the regular one, AND, I really would love to pay about the same price. Do you have anything like that?"

Bestbuy Rep: "well yes sir if you will follow me I think we have exactly what you are looking for."

Im going to wait and see how this is going to turn out. Im sticking with the MSRP of $299 while the 8800GTX 640mb stays around 400 dollars.

lol :p

Bestbuy Rep: "actually, the less memory you have the faster your card will be"

Anywho, to be fair, the initial reports by Vr-Zone did say $299 - $349. Perhaps it will MSRP at $349 with the street price falling to $299 in a matter of weeks (just like the 640MB did from $449 -> $399).

soooo sooo true lol. A year ago I heard a Best Buy Geek squad guy telling a customer that he had viruses infecting his computer. The customer then asked what he could do. The Geek squad guy responded that they needed more RAM, and showed him a stick of DDR 333, 512mb. It was priced at 99.99 lol. THe customer of course thought about it and after much assurance from the Geek squad guy (by saying that it would stop viruses and give more room for pictures and other data) they bought it. I wanted to go over and beat his face in for helping with the technological retardation of America.

LOL. Wow... If you check out bestbuysux.org you will find that most people get the same thing. From some of the employee statements, they don't even train techs on how to even use a computer, they actually teach them more about sales. Sad sad...

We can reasonably expect a $25 reduction in the bill of materials for the 320MB version of the card.

Yup.

Samsung K4J55323QG-BC12 (800MHz GDDR3 memory) has a spot market price of about $50 for 640MB. We can reasonably expect a $25 reduction in the bill of materials for the 320MB version of the card.

Actual pricing of this new 320 MB version is very much unknown.

I will not give up my 512MB of texture memory for a faster card w/only 2/3's the memory. Especially not when i can get the "big" GTS card for a whole $40 more.

The "big" GTS is a distinct possibility for me, especially if the price drops next month when (if) ATI releases their new GPU.

Geeze...not worth it. I'll happily spend the $50 more for double the ram. All this will do is keep prices of the 640 mb version high. Too bad...it'd be nice to see this baby hit $300 in the next few months. That'd give ATi some real competition.
