Rumor mill: 2.5L AWD Turbo BRZ for 2015

AWD is what it was lacking. It essentially needs to be a two door WRX to compete.

As it stands now the WRX is quicker, AWD, and cheaper. The BRZ is pointless.

I like the BRZ better - fun handling, RWD, coupe, and doesn't look like a '14 Toyota Corrolla

I would definitely jump on an AWD Turbo BRZ tho. That, or a turbo Soul :awe:

I like acceleration and conquering winter roads.

I actually like the toned down looks of the new WRX. It is very good looking. I wish the STi could be ordered without the wing. That said, those cars are too low for me. If I get another turbo Subaru it would be another Forester XT.

No thanks.
I'd rather stick with the "under powered" BRZ with communicative steering and a tossable nature then deal with an automatic only "mini" WRX.
Keep it light and simple.

Would like to see it with the 2.0 turbo from the WRX (not necessarily the 2.5L from the STI). Not that AWD wouldn't be cool - but I think it would add too much weight in that platform.

I don't think it will add too much weight. Legacy for example doesn't weight any more than FWD sedans. Yeah sport car is different beat, but if anybody can make efficient AWD it is Subaru.

Never drove a BRZ but I have driven an FRS. Needs more power, but shit it's a blast to drive. AWD doesn't appeal to me, turbo does. I'll probably test drive this if it actually comes out. Say what you will, but the BRZ/FRS's are beautiful cars to me.

There are plenty of other awd cars already available. Yawn.

Should be a 2.0T or something and RWD.

Yeah, and it's interesting because there are more & more budget cars in the same power range becoming available:

The BRZ stands out because of the handling & RWD for a $25k base price. But everyone says it needs more power. Curious to see if they can boost the power without affecting the fun-to-drive aspect of the car...

It's funny how people say things like this about the Miata and BRZ. How could more power possibly make it less fun to drive? I mean sure if it was 700hp and impossible to control, but we're talking 300hp max here

I assume they mean drastic changes to weight, but a turbo or supercharger will not add enough weight to change the dynamics of the vehicle.

The S2000 with a Viper V10 I saw on another forum would prob not handle as well as a typical S2000.

Are they substantially reworking the car? Or are they going to admit they were full of $#!^ since didn't they keep claiming there wasn't room for a turbo or AWD, they had designed the cars such that there was just no room to package that in the chassis?

Personally, I'm all for it. I always thought the BRZ could be like a GTR-lite. I'd love for them to pair with Cosworth or Prodrive or someone and offer a special version in the vein of the 22B.

This if you want AWD get a WRX. BRZ should stay RWD

No, if you want the lighter RWD you get the Scion/Toyota.

That's always been my issue with this is that there's practically no difference between the Subaru and Toyota versions. It always baffled me that it wasn't always setup so Subaru would differentiate by offering AWD and a turbo.

Yeah, that makes no sense. RWD & great handling is what the original design was for. They'd probably make it stick only if they could get away with it

Fact is, if they want to keep sales numbers up they need to go for automatics. My bigger issue is that I don't think Subaru's auto is terribly performance oriented (didn't they put a CVT in the WRX?).

Well maybe, but I'm guessing they also put work into compensating for the extra weight and power (upgrade suspension, maybe add a roll cage, probably turned the front end into a tube frame and shed some weight). It will definitely drive differently, but not necessarily better or worse. Now you might prefer cars that you keep wound up versus more braking and acceleration, but what you'd rather have would probably depend more on where you're driving (well and budget).

I'm calling BS on this as well. Subaru already makes the WRX, they don't need another WRX.

One of the designers said in an interview that if they decided to add more power that they would have had to increase the intrusion of electronic nanny systems to meet certain stability criteria. They chose the 200hp power level as a compromise between performance and a more-pure driving experience.
