Rumor: Gears Of War 2 Info

Gears Of War 2

Provided it makes it out this year, Gears of War 2 will certainly be one of the biggest titles of 2008. However, for now, we really don't have any official details or information from either Microsoft or Epic Games, so we kinda have to rely on rumors. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though, because we all love a good rumor, right?

The latest bit of information comes courtesy of GameGuru, and lists the following as features for GeoW2:

* Unreal 3.5 Engine
* 4 new weapons
* Twice as big as the original game
* Playable air vehicles
* New melee combat mechanics
* New action set pieces
* Outdoor environments to include battlefield wars

Furthermore, there's supposedly a map that's codenamed "Silent Night," which draws the player deep inside the Locust Stronghold. It's good-sized map, too, as it will take you a good 20-25 minutes to complete. Beyond this, we don't have much else to talk about, but the mention of the Unreal Engine 3.5 and the sequel being "twice as big" as the original Gears of War certainly caught our attention...this sequel is gonna rock!

Hopefully they will extend the co-op to include 4-players, or at least add the ability to play as Baird or Cole Train.

xboxnerds.com? Even if it's all true, there's really nothing here that gets me any MORE excited for GoW2. Honestly, give me 4 player co-op and I'll be happy.

Am I the only one who thought the first one was "meh?" I stopped playing after the 3rd level, it was so boring. Fun factor wise, I thought Lost Planet was more enjoyable.

I thought the campaign was excellent. Speaking only about the campaign, it was right up there with CoD4 for me. Neither one can touch BioShock, however. Halo 3 is much further down the list.

Sounds All like rumors, but the original is why i bought a 360 to begin with, and its my ultimate favorite console game.

If they fix some silly things that were in the first (Host advantage,stupid glitches) then this game definitely will be a 10/10.

Can't Wait! 🙂

I debated between Gears of war or Lost planet. Settled on gears after reading lost planet was buggy. I beat Gears for PC but wouldn't mind trying Lost planet if the gameplay is comparable assuming they've fixed it up with a few patches.

EDIT: Im aware Im in console gaming, but input on the game itself would help me.

I thought the multi-player for Lost Planet was fun - some of the maps were really good at having mechs and infantry running around without letting the mechs dominate. I'm not sure how many people are playing it online now.

I only played GoW online once, I hated it. Maybe because the only online I play is Halo 3 or CoD4 but I just couldn't get used to the way Gears was online. I really liked the campaign and will pick up the sequel for sure.

Playable air vehicles? That's a little weird. I could see a stereotypical helicopter-chaingun-on-rails segment, but actually controlling them seems odd. Then again, the vehicle segment in GeoW was not one I liked much.

My most wished-for feature: comprehensible in-game story. If you read the book that came with the LE version, you got some of it, but there were some totally off-the-wall events in the game (why am I raiding my father's estate? why does this gadget I found have the tunnels completely mapped out?).

I had no issue at all following the narrative with only the game to provide the story. I'm sure additional details exist, but everything I was doing in-game made sense.

Yeah I still don't understand what Fenix's father or his estate had to do with the invasion. I also don't know why one of the other military guys at the beginning called Fenix a traitor.

Fenix's father was a scientist who helped develop the 'resonator' which would map out all the Locust tunnels using sound. The first attempt didn't work but Fenix's father had a bigger version or something (I forget since it has been almost a year) that would fully map the Locust tunnels so that the COG could deliver a huge weapon to the center of the Locust nest.

There were hints as to why Fenix was a traitor. Had to do with trying to go back and rescue his father against orders I think. Supposed to be fully explained in some book I never read.

I actually kind of liked not knowing all of the details. I almost see Gears of War as a modern day Contra (perhaps Contra III). You are thrown into this world with little to go on, but the important facts are there: alien invasion, human survival at risk, big guns and explosions, 'nuff said 🙂. It even has the two-player co-op element.

With this kind of game, I'd prefer to get to the action rather than have to wade through hours of cut scenes and elaborate plot explanations that I ultimately don't care about. I don't want Gears to get the Metal Gear Solid treatment.

The book Gears of War 1: The Pendulum Wars, is supposed to ship 8/26/08.

After finally reading three of the halo books I have to say I'm stoked about these games getting the full multimedia treatment, The Flood book unfortunately, was just Halo:CE in book form, and read more like a strategy guide at times, and most the dialog is right from the game. They do properly explain why the Sarge wasn't, and can't be infected though, so the whole book was worth it just for that.

AS to the OP: I am a GearsHead, no doubt about it, love the game and just about everything about it. It is for me, what Halo is to many others. So I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. Some of the rumored stuff sounds to good to be true, but more content and weapons, longer chapters, and hopefully better vehicle controls would rule. Being forced to stop to fire the UV gun was irritating as hell on insane.

Metal Gear Solid cutscenes were fine. MGS3 is where the narration starts to take too much precedence. That said, I was telling my bro before we bought GoW that it was bascially 3D Contra 🙂

I loved GoW and can't wait to play GoW2. It's probably my favorite 360 game and *great* in coop. I wish more 360 games had coop.
