Rumor: Batman Arkham Asylum delayed 'till the Holidays

Update: Not as bad of a delay as originally rumored. Geoff Keighley of Gametrailers TV just tweeted that Batman Arkham Asylum is officially delayed until "end of summer 2009" per an announcement from Eidos and Warner Brothers.

So, that puts it in the first half of September more than likely.

Game Informer has learned that Eidos Interactive may be keeping its bat in the belfry until the holiday season. According to print advertising and release dates on retail sites, Batman: Arkham Asylum is scheduled to ship on June 23. The game?s official website simply lists a summer timeframe. Today sources close to the game told Game Informer that the release date was being pushed until the fourth quarter of 2009. When contacted on whether or not the date was moving, neither Eidos Interactive nor Warner Bros. were willing to comment on the possibility of a delay. When asked if the June 23 release date was still valid, a Warner Bros. representative said, ?Sorry - no comment.?

Man, this was the game I was looking forward to the most for the summer. I'm torn between wanting it now and wanting it done right. With all the media they've been releasing for the game lately though, I was under the impression that it was very close to done.

If it's delayed to improve quality, that's fine. If it's delayed simply to target the holiday season, the busiest window for video game releases, that's a terribly stupid decision.

Either way, this game looks extremely promising and I'm excited about it.

I agree.

I am so excited for this game, it's one of my top games I am looking to for the entire year. It will be hard to wait 5 extra months if this is true

Just remember GoW 2!! A game that SHOULD have been delayed to fix a bunch of problems but wasn't and a shoddy product was released. If it helps remove glitches/errors and makes a better product then way cool. I don't think they'd delay it that long just to target Christmas.

A good game will sell regardless. If they were waiting for Christmas to release to a bigger market, they're also competing with more publishers who have the same idea. Hopefully their accountants aren't that short sighted.

That sucks but if its to improve the product I can't complain. Looks like Ghostbusters will have the month to itself (I don't know of any other big product coming out in June).

A license like Batman will sell a lot during the holidays even with other games around. Sales from the people who've been following it, plus random holiday urge purchases from parents/family who pick games from title or cover art alone.

I still think they'd be better off now with hype from the movie/DVD still around rather than six months from now when Batman is no longer in the spotlight.

Officially pushed back to end of Summer 2009. 🙁
