Yeah, you heard me. This is just my prediction, but knowing Steve Jobs you know he's going to beg Intel for at least a 3 month jump on Yonah vs. the Wintel crowd. And I think Intel will do it (unless AMD magically has a dual-core Turion designed for mobile from the ground up.)

We all know (or suspect) the first Mactel will be a new Mac mini with current Pentium M architecture. But this launch won't demonstrate the awesome power of the Intel alliance like Apple wants. They want a BIG announcement where Apple actually takes the performance lead vs. Microsoft.

We also know the current PowerBooks are a joke when it comes to performance. I believe that rushing to market with just another Pentium M would be too little, too late. But if Apple could be first to market with a Yonah solution...that would pwn!

One thing I'm curious about is how Apple will prevent people from running Windows on their Macs. This could be the next big thing for the modchip community! :p

My Prediction: If that happens, Michael Dell will kick Paul Otellini in the nuts, figuratively of course...

They will not.

After Jobs' presentation, Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller addressed the issue of running Windows on Macs, saying there are no plans to sell or support Windows on an Intel-based Mac. "That doesn't preclude someone from running it on a Mac. They probably will," he said. "We won't do anything to preclude that."

Isn't Yonah supposed to be released long before mid 2007?

Edit:

Yonah is scheduled for release in Q1 of 2006 which before even the scheduled transition for the first Macs to Intel chips in mid 2006.

IDF - Intel 'Yonah' to boost Centrino media speed

This isn't a rumor, it's just something you made up and it's not going to happen.

OMG I so want one now! The ultimate dual-boot machine! I still think that for everything to work right, you'll need some sort of modded BIOS.

According to Apple we'll start seeing Mactels in 2006--full lineup won't be until 2007, but that doesn't mean they can't release a Yonah Powerbook earlier.

OOPS just realized my OP said 'powermacs' instead of 'powerbooks'.

I highly doubt Apple will be able to get their software ready in time for a Q1 2006 launch. Apple will not be the first to market with a Yonah product unless Intel delays the launch to make it possible, which I don't see happening.

Im sure they can have their first party software ready, its not like they havent been working on it for awhile. Its their third party support thats another matter. But those behind Mathmatica said it was quick and easy to recompile.
