Here's a few rules that I came up with for any of you planning on coming to Hawaii for vacation.

1) Don't wear over revealing clothes. That's just wrong. =(
2) Don't go to the beach if you're fat. (see end of rule 1)
3) Bring enough money to go to the malls. Not those damn outlet stores and the swap meet.
4) Bring enough sunscreen so you don't get burnt. Don't need no *red* people walking around.
5) Rent a car. Don't need ya'll walking around *burnt* (see rule 4).
6) If you're old, see rule 1.

Enjoy! =)

7)Don't refer to the mainland as "back in the States"
8)Find the right beach if you like to break rule #1
9)If you obey rule #5, remember, this ain't the FRICKN' mainland. SLOW DOWN!
10)Don't ask me if I live here (no you idiot, I commute to work each day)

BiggieN - I don't surf. A lot of my friends don't. We go to the beach, but not surf...

I got some of my favorite hawaiian shirts at the Ross "dress for less" store over by costco on Oahu. All the stores in Waikiki were pretty outragous. I also got a whole ton of cool surf t-shirts at Waiamea Bay from some guy selling them off a folding table. I think they were 2 or 3 for $10.

Hey I've been to Hawaii, but I didn't find nothing there that's not avaliable cheaper an easier in Sydney. Except volcanoes.

Mind part of the deal I was on was free food & booz, so you can guess what I spent my time doing.

Plus the beaches in Sydney are less gaudy & touristy.

When we were on maui the Costco had just opened.We had pizza from there for dinner one night, wasn't as good as Cheeseburger in Paridise though. :) We went to Big beach down by Wialeia (sp) and from what I heard at the far end their was a nude spot called "little beach". We didn't go there though. :(

Helpful hints:
Driving in Honolulu;
If you plan to drive in Honolulu, get a good city map, a navigator, and memorize your route in advance. Why? The "H1", their main interstate has no access roads. So what? you say. Well, you can't enter or exit except by hitting the exact "cross" street that has an entrance of exit ramp. It's very frustrating ramdomly weaving back and forth under the interstate on one way streets hoping you finally find an on-ramp. Same story at your exit. You see the Sams store from the interstate -- you exit, but you haven't got a clue how to drive to it.

Hiking on Oahu;
If you plan on hiking up one of the many ridge trails to where you can view both the ocean to the north and to the south, keep in mind that the trails are slippery when wet. And they will be wet even if it's dry everywhere else. Also these trails are well maintained but you travel up and down in elevation more than you would expect. Plan accordingly.
