I'm sure even back then there were plenty of books on it.

Indeed. I purchased a thin paperback, about 20 pages long for 2 bucks or so about 6 months after the cube became popular.

people don't read though, but with the fucking google they are geniuses.

It's funny though because google and the like will show a lot of error/false reality stuff. You get tired of hearing it.

The biggest thing for me is fitness type stuff. When I was in my mid-teens to late 20's I was majorly into it and studying it. The same shit gets repeated even when it's been pounded into the mound wrong.

Pic of my 3x3, 4x4 cubes and very popular 1981 64 page book.

Got the 3x3 1981 and 4x4 cube and a how to solve book mid 1984, IIRC. I've averaged solving them <70 seconds and 7 minutes respectively. Not the fastest by any means, since I don't use any special moves/algorithms I've seen in other websites.

I haven't even bothered to get a 5x5 cube and make a guess on how to solve it.

How many times were those stickers taken off :)

I remember my cube and many cheap ones radio stations and the like handed out. The 'snake' was fun to play with and that pyramid one.

Forced to sell in a rummage sale when my family moved

I still have no clue how to solve my Homer Simpson rubik's cube, suppose there's probably a guide out there for that too somewhere.

Bump.

One part I still don't get is when trying to solve the second layer, your supposed to find a top edge piece that doesn't have any yellow (or blue on it, depending on what the center piece is), but it's almost impossible not to come across a scenario where there are yellows on all of the edge pieces, and then i'm not really sure what to do. I just keep doing F R U R' U' F' until I get the cross on top, but I don't understand why guides say to find a top edge piece with no yellow on it when there is almost always yellow on all the four edge pieces.

Still thinking about painting my cube also. Read that Silicone spray is good to make the cube more maneuverable?
