There have been random complaints by people on the servers that some guys are running around invisible. However, I haven't run across any invisible folks since I've been playing, but this may be due to being in the middle of all the carnage all the time. Is this rumor true? Is there actually a way to make yourself invisible?

I won't take long for cheats to get into this one, it's still based on the Q3 engine so it won't be that difficult todo. just my opinion.

it is more likely a bug..

RTCW has a lot of anti-cheat measures that Q3 never implemented

It's a bug that was also in Quake 3 when it was first released. Apparently the developers of rtcw missed that one. Hopefully they'll patch it up shortly.

In a Q3 mod I play (Q3F) there's a video problem with invisible players, it's not something you can enable yourself and is usually a problem on the side of the person not seeing the other person. I thought this was a problem with the mod I play and Q3 (although iD did break something in a PR which caused the problem) but maybe it made it through into RTCW too.

A /vid_restart usually fixes it for the person not seeing someone.

Okie. I have just witnessed firsthand the RTCW invisible bug. Not only are some players invisible, but some of the Allies were appearing as Axis (thank god friendly fire was turned off). It was driving me insane. For the first few minutes, I thought I was spontaneously combusting, but it turns out, it was an invisible flamethrower. Drove me nuts so I finally just decided to quit it.

If you think that's bad, in destroy missions our own team is planting the dinamyte which ends up in a allies win. Talk about tk'ing your own team.
