RTCW MP load times?

I have a friend that gets around the same pings I do on cable. He's running a P4 1.8, 256MB, G2Mx400 and starts a MP game alot faster than me (PIII 1G, 256MB, G2Pro@220/270). Once playing I can see better performance from my card at 1280x1024. Does the CPU matter that much when loading an MP game?

Definitely. I went from a PIII 600 to a 1.2ghz Celeron and now I'm usually the 2nd or 3rd one in when a level loads. With the 600 I was close to the last one in.

Ditto that. I have a PIII 800, 256MB, Gainward GF3 Ti200 and it takes the levels forever to load. In constrast my Dad has an AMD 1800+, 512MB, TNT2 card and the levels load at least 2-3 times faster. Once in the game, however, I get better frame rates because of my card. The Gainward would be sick in his rig.

Comparing times, My Pentium 1GHz (100fsb) takes anywhere from about 25secs to 45secs to connect. Is this the norm for this processor? How long does it take you and what processor?
