RTCW - legitimate copy?

My bro bought RTCW from a high street shop. It seems to be in original packaging, and comes with all the trimmings which seem legitimate enough.

However, the CD-Key is not printed on the box, as it is suggested that it should be. Instead, it is hand-written on the inside front cover of the manual.

Is this right?

No..that's a bootleg copy. An original would have the cd key printed on a label affixed to the CD jewel case. It's not anywhere in the manual or in/on the box.

The thing I don't understand is that the CD-key is supposed to be printed on the jewel case, but the CD isn't supplied in a jewel case. The whole game package is supplied in a DVD box - disc, manual, cards, etc. There is no jewel case.

The same packaging is used in every different high-street shop that I or my bro have looked in.

Well you didn't say where you bought the CD. If you bought it in the US then yes its a bootleg copy if it came in a DVD case and is a new release. See if you can register it!
