When I enter a "new area" my computer lags a bit and it sounds like my computer's hard drive is working. The best way i can describe it is that it just freezes for about less than a second then keeps going, and then i t freezes again for less than a second, and then it's fine. It gets pretty annoying after a while, I think its the lack of more RAM. It seems my hard drive works a lot when this happens.

I had the same problem until I defragged the hard drive partition that RTCW was sitting on. My RTCW install was seriously fragmented. I've got the same hardware config.

I noticed for the first couple of secs the map doesn't seem to be fully loaded or something. But its smooth after that, really isn't a big problem, since when you spawn you aren't really in firing range of anyone.

RTCW flies on my TNT2-Pro card, way better than on my TNT-1 card.

BTW, this is not a joke......my computer is pathetic.

ITs the lack of RAM. I'm using XP and when I used to run RTCW the game was not very smooth in some areas....this was with 256MB. Now that I have 512.....the game once it loads from the hdd ....each level that is.....everything is smooth....and I know that my videocard is the reason some large maps stutter a little (Radeon LE @191/191)...but other than that.....I noticed XP plus RTCW...you need LOTS of RAM.

You need more RAM - try getting another 256 MB. Also what detail levels are you running the game at? Try reducing them.
